This pass is certainly 4x4 only. I made it only so far in my stock Cherokee Trailhawk before turning around. Passing the ghost town can be done in an AWD sedan however there are clear signs bringing your journey to a halt if you don't have a 4x4 with clearance and skidplates. During the summer will be your safest chance on making it. There is parking for vehicles that can not make it. I suggest at least a mile hike to really enjoy the views but stay on the path. We were attempting to make it to the lake inside the valley but never made it over the mountain.
Nice and quiet when the of road people go home
