We had a total blast camping here in early July! Ranger Ian was such a huge help. He did us a solid and made our visit much easier - thanks! The sites are nice and roomy. It’s a cozy campground right between two brooks. Such a peaceful place to sleep. It’s also a fairly central location, as far as those things go in this massive park!
I did not camp here but I camp nearby and use the store often. Don't have everything i wish they had but I understand why. Great ice cream and tons of flies for fly fishing! Beautiful place with amazing views of Mount katahdin
If you love hiking, make this a destination. Great campground for family and friends. Very clean and great people to help you out of you need anything at all. Mount katahdin is able to be seen from a decent amount of the campground. So many different trails and also swimming spots. You can find just about anything you would like to do within a short hike.
In the Baxter State Park is so many places with parking, outside tables and cabins. Abol is one of close to the Gate - check point (6 miles distance). If you would like stay outside you can reserved the cabin - $32.00 per night. Restroom and fireplace are near the cabin. I counted 12 cabins at this Campground.
The ranger at the campground was super cool and answered all our questions. Love that it's rustic with no water or electricity at the site and only tents or renting a lean to for the night. The waterfall trail from the campground was cute and short and the falls themselves were gorgeous.
