Adirondack Park Introduce
Nestled in the heart of New York, Adirondack Park is a remarkable destination that offers a blend of natural beauty and outdoor adventures. Unlike traditional national or state parks, this park is a forest protection reserve, part-owned by the state and private entities, allowing free access to its scenic wonders.
Adirondack Park is renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, including the largest contiguous forest east of the Mississippi River. It boasts over 40 peaks exceeding 4,000 feet in elevation, many of which offer dramatic vertical ascents from relatively low base elevations. The park's pristine lakes, such as Lake George and Lake Placid—both voted among the most beautiful in the USA—beckon visitors year-round.
Whether you're driving through the park during fall foliage season on Highway 87 for an unforgettable road trip or exploring the charming town of Lake George with its summer activities, Adirondack Park promises a memorable experience. Its serene villages, crystal-clear lakes, and majestic mountains create a haven for nature enthusiasts.

- Variety of Landscapes: From dense forests to alpine summits, offering diverse natural beauty.

Although it is called a park, it is not a national park or a state park, it is a forest protection reserve. Part of it owned by state of New York, part owned by private citizen, no fee and entrance into it. The park has beautiful body of water, color changing mountains and many villages inside, high way 87 passing through the park, driving during fall is amazing road trip, seeing the wonderful foliage, town of lake George is vacation destination with many activities in the summer
Beautiful scenery in the largest contiguous forest east of the Mississippi. Many clear water lakes within and include the 2 voted most beautiful in USA, Lake George and Lake Placid. Over 40 peaks over 4,000 in elevation most of that is vertical as the base is not too high above sea level.
Know before you go! Try to decide what you and / or your group want to do before driving into the park. If possible, have reservations in hand to save time and confusion. Summer is the busiest time of year. My personal choice times to visit are spring and autumn. My favorite four activities are 1) slow gentle hikes to look for wild flowers and tree flowers or fruit; 2) visiting historic sites; 3) shopping at the outlets and 4) leisurely boat rides.
One of the most beautiful places on earth, and no don’t expect there to be facilities everywhere in a park that has millions of acres, place is wild and hopefully always will be, remember Leave No Trace always!
Hmmm review on the entire park? That’s tough. Let’s sum it up as.... if you enjoy the outdoors, hunting, fishing, trapping, hiking, swimming, boating, skiing, or any other out door activity, I will guarantee you’ll find it here in the expansive 6.6 million acre park. Idk look me up on YouTube while you’re at it folks. Enjoy!
