Beautiful area without being overran by tourists. The area is open camping without all the restrictions. Great day trip hiking trails surrounded by history.
Great BLM land! We were only there for one night. Wish we could have stayed longer. The trail to river is very easy and just beautiful. Not a lot of spots for RVs. Anything bigger than 35 will have a hard time parking. Also has pit toilets. *** There is a lost dog black and white pit mix. Hangs out by bathroom very scared couldn’t get near. 4/17-18 Did report to animal control. If owners are looking.
Such an amazing place to explore and hike. Filled with so much history and beauty. Use caution on the road coming in to the badger springs trailhead. Many ruins scattered throughout the ridges overlooking the river. Absolutely stunning and blessed to have this as a place the public can enjoy
Wide open desolate landscape, dirt and gravel roads. Most of the trail systems are unmarked and unkempt. We drove down to the river and hiked along it for a couple miles, then drove down to the ranch. There was a field with a bunch of animal bones and carcuses. Entry is free, the area is all BLM. You can camp for 2 weeks also.
Truly a national treasure. A short drive north of Phoenix this national monument has many hiking trails, beautiful landscapes and culturally significant locations. There are historical sites that include dwellings and petroglyphs with various accessibility. Please be respectful and do not remove artifacts (stones, pottery shards, etc.). Some roads may require high clearance vehicles (call the ranger station ahead of your trip) and there are not always bathrooms nearby. Remember to bring plenty of water during late spring, summer, and early fall months.
