A rugged campground that is not easy to get to. It does have bear lockers and fire pits. There's a small stream that was nice to wade and relax in the cool water. We saw a couple of water snakes and other critters as well as a good amount of traffic from people who appeared to be camping here and then wheeling the Rubicon.

The basics: Amenities include a few communal toilets, garbage and recycling, and a campfire pit, a bear box, and parking at each campsite. There is no running water or electricity. There is no cell service (T-Mobile but likely all other carries as well) The road leading to the campground is paved and the campground had gravel paths leading to each site. Any and all vehicles can easily access this campground. Camping is free, and availability is first come first serve. There are 15 individual campsites and what appears to be a group campsite which is currently unavailable due to Covid-19. I spent 2 nights at airport flats campground in the middle of August 2020. There was plenty of availability but that could be due to the pandemic and days of the week I stayed here. The weather was warm during the day, low 90's, and maybe 60 at night. This was when surrounding areas were will past the 100's and some breaking 110. There is a small stream that runs near the campground but it was only large enough to wade in at this time. The area is beautiful with large trees all around but there aren't any marked hiking trails so adventure at your own risk. My stay was quiet and peaceful. Make sure to pack in water and a portable gas grill as campfires may be prohibited depending on conditions.

It's a great free campground with a creek nearby. They have several spaces to choose from even if you have a large group. There is a picnic table at every site.
