Beautiful and peaceful. Smaller campsite so less people around. The trails, meadow, and creeks are gorgeous. Highly recommend. I had site #10 and it was well shaded by Redwood trees and fairly private.
Great campsites, family friendly, safe for kids playing around. It has only 40 sites, so its not crowded. Ample parking at most part near your site. Lots of long and short hiking trails for beginners or serious hikers. Night is peaceful and quite except for the nocturnal creatures. Deer family always pay a visit to campers coz their meal(wild berries) is all over. We saw a Black Bear slowly walking out of some woodsy area on the far side of the meadow and have a chance to take some photos.
Best campground we’ve stayed at in California so far! Get a spot with a meadow view and watch for the bears eating apples! Fab facilities and lovely staff! They also have a range of talks, walks and activities.
Forewarning- especially to those driving in at night!!! Don't make the same mistake that I did. It may be obvious to some but apparently not for me. Once you get on Mattole Road off the 101, DO NOT FOLLOW GOOGLE MAPS DIRECTION. Stay on the road for just over 5 miles, look out for the Albee campground sign and the road into camp will be on your right. Google maps will lead you to turn onto a thin dirt road (even has a small post that states Albee Creek Campground). This is incorrect and you've gone too far. I'll be happy if it helps one other person. Great campsite though.
Great site. Although it's not incredibly private due to the proximity of adjacent campsites, the approach to Albee prohibit massive RV's from comfortably making the trek. No loud generators or oppressively large vehicles to deal with. :) The sites closest to the field are ideal for stargazing and watching roaming wildlife. Good spot for families with small children and people looking for a good respite in one of California's great state parks.
