Alger Island Campground Introduce

Alger Island Campground, located at 1885 S Shore Rd, Old Forge, NY 13420, offers a unique camping experience within the Adirondack region. As a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it provides access to island camping on a lake, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Adirondacks.

The campground's island location provides a distinct camping atmosphere. Campers can expect to be surrounded by water and natural scenery. However, it's important to note, based on customer reviews, that the lake can be crowded, and the trail around the island traverses through the campsites, potentially leading to increased foot traffic.

Furthermore, campsites located on the restaurant side of the island may experience noise disturbances, particularly late into the night. It is advised to bring earplugs if you are sensitive to noise. Despite these potential drawbacks, many campers have reported positive experiences and return to Alger Island Campground annually.

Key features and considerations for Alger Island Campground include:

  • Island Camping: A unique camping experience on an island within a lake.
  • Scenic Location: Situated in the Adirondack region, offering picturesque natural surroundings.
  • Lake Access: Provides opportunities for water-based activities.
  • Potential Crowds: The lake and island trail can be crowded, impacting privacy.
  • Noise Levels: Campsites near the restaurant may experience significant noise, especially at night.
  • Varying Experiences: Customer reviews indicate both positive and negative experiences, depending on site location and personal preferences.

For local users seeking an island camping experience in the Adirondacks, Alger Island Campground offers a unique opportunity. However, it is essential to be aware of the potential for crowds and noise, particularly for campsites located near the restaurant. It is recommended to research specific site locations and consider personal preferences before booking.

Very crowded lake, campsites are nice, but the trail around the island walks through them, expect visitors. If you’re on the restaurant side, bring ear plugs and expect to hear screaming until 2:30am.

If you enjoy sleep deprived nights, hikers strolling onto your campsite because the trail runs through it and bleeding eardrums from loud powerboats then this is the place to camp. Daiker's across the water has live entertainment on the weekends until 2 am, whether you like it or not. The bar is only 300 yards away but my god, does the sound carry. I could actually hear a drunk guy hitting on a girl and getting shut down from our campsite at 1:30 AM. The island itself really isn't bad aside from the trail layout. It does have clean amenities and nice lean twos. If you like a peaceful camping experience, find another spot.

Do not follow the google maps or GPS directions, they will lead you the wrong way (onto private property). Access Alger Island campground via Petrie Road. There are signs for the campground on South Shore Road, follow them carefully. This camp site is water access only, there are many boat rentals in the area, but I do not believe the campground itself rents boats. Had a great time! brought our own canoe, no potable water on the island itself.

Great place for canoe camping. Bring your own food and wood. The island is small, but big enough. There is a picnic area on the east end of the island, some walking trails, and several lean-tos with outhouse.
