We are new to Missouri and were told this is a must see. I’m glad we went! It’s a bit of a drive from Springfield, but so worth it! The water is absolutely gorgeous!! Be sure to hike around the mill. Because we went during winter months, the tour hadn’t started up so we will have to go back for that. There are some informational posts so you can still get some history even without the tour. There are campgrounds nearby if you want to make a weekend trip!

Beautiful area and very nice and well maintained campground. The electric sites are a little tight, but not impossible to back into. I wouldn't want to try with anything much bigger than our 29 foot bumper pull camper though unless it was a 5th wheel because there isn't much space to maneuver. The mill and spring were stunningly beautiful and pictures don't do it justice. The swimming area in the campground is decent and a nice deep and very cold spring fed swimming hole is next to the river access. Beware you will likely have zero cell service in most of the campground. I was able to get a few texts here and there but internet was non existent. So make sure and download your music ahead of time. Also look up things to do and see ahead of time. There are tons of things to do and see around the area so get a plan together before you arrive. The general store across the road from the campground is a good spot to get firewood and supplies, as well as set up floating and other activities.

The campground is very well maintained, I’ve been coming here since I was little and it’s always been wonderful. I came in late; 1:30 am coming from Denver Co. I have to put in the river at 8am for my kayak trip. My drinks and chairs are on the table I didn’t have time to set up my tent. I come back after a 15mile float and all my drinks, my chairs gone! Stolen! Like what the heck? I’m glad I didn’t have anything else at my campsite. Then the next nights I have park rangers shining their flashlights in my tent at 1am. What the heck has happened to this park. I don’t think I’ll be coming back to this campground again. 😢

Very clean and well maintained campground that is hostile towards walk in canoe campers. We did a 4 night canoe trip along the Jacks fork river and found this beautiful campground right at the end of our 3rd day on the river. Of course everything has to booked online which is very annoying as we're trying to put our phones down for a few days to enjoy nature. Oh yea and it took forever to book because you have to have an NPS account and service which is damn near impossible because we're in the, you know, MOUNTAINS. Is a simple cash pay station too much to ask? We were also treated very poorly by the campground hosts who were very rude and snippy about the rules. We were happy to comply with the rules of the park and were non confrontational about the whole thing but it was clear the hosts did not want us there. We didn't know we couldn't hang a tarp from the trees or the strict tent limit per site as we were walk ins and didn't have internet access. I know ignorance of the rules is never an excuse to break them but a little grace and a kind explanation of the rules would have sufficed but we got the opposite. The whole event ruined what was otherwise a great day on the river. They should consider putting up a sign that reads "canoe campers unwelcome" to avoid this sort of confusion in the future.
