We had an amazing time. The views and trails are beautiful. The campsites were a little closer together than I would like, but we had the perfect one. If you bring a dog please do not leave your poo bags laying around. We saw several bags around the campground.
The amount of trash and broken glass here is astounding. I’ve already thrown away many handfuls. The most I have ever seen outside a recycling bin. It’s hard to attempt to pickup the glass as it becomes a never ending endeavor. Easy to see why the forest service (somewhat) cracked down on the area. Real shame for such a beautiful spot. There are nice trials over the hill to the resort but they are not on many apps. I found them via exploration.
Into driving a dirt road for miles up the mountain? How about lots of pot holes, ruts, rocks, twists and turns?! Want beautiful scenery too? Then Alta Lakes is for you!!! After we made it to the top we discovered the campground was almost full…but we found a nice spot on top of a hill. Make sure you come early enough in the day to claim your spot! The lake is beautiful and when it’s dark the sky is bursting with stars! Perfect for a campfire!:) one warning…. Since it’s high altitude-11,000 ft approx. prepare for altitude sickness if your sensitive to it!
Awesome place. Very gorgeous. Clear water. Abundant rainbow trout. 4x4 recommended.
This is not a worthwhile stop for hiking. It's just primitive campsites and small mud-bottom lakes. Our dogs kept finding dead fish to roll around in. We left after walking around the lakes in less than 20 minutes. There were mosquitoes and lots of big trucks and dirt bikes to watch out for. The road is a mess, too... Narrow and rocky
