Don't just take our word for it—here's what our happy customers have to say:
- "We were thrilled to find out this KOA is open in January, as we were in a pinch needing a place to stay with hookups. They were very friendly when we called for info. They had everything all set up and super easy to pick your spot and settle in. Very accommodating and friendly. Will definitely stay here again when we are in the area!"
- "Our pipes in our cabin froze (in December) and the team went above and beyond to correct the issue for us! They did everything possible to correct it, and they were super professional and nice when I first reported it, and they got on it ASAP and offered a discount for our inconvenience without me having to ask or complain. When the issue couldn’t be resolved in a timely manner, they gave us an upgrade in another cabin and comped our stay. The whole team was great and even though the situation sucked and inconvenienced us, they were obviously doing everything they could possibly do which included digging under the cabin, using heaters on the pipes, and a camera to diagnose the problem. This was our second stay here and we will absolutely be returning!"

Location is great. Activities were good. WiFi didn’t work and there were some areas that could be used better. We weee told when cooking the campground was sold to capacity but several sites were open. Also, several seasonal campers told us the campground has declined the last couple years and continues to raise the cost with no improvement.
Great place to get away for the weekend from Chicago. The amenities are good for kids and I love that it's open year-round. My only small complaint is the golf cart traffic on the weekends during the summer.
The good: The price is decent, the waterfront sites are beautiful, and the staff is nice and will do what they can to make an issue right. It looks like it has a nice beach area, the fun inflatables on the lake, and nice pool. The staff trying to make it right is why I gave it 3 stars. The bad: The seasonal campers. It is almost entirely seasonal campers, and it was PACKED. They do not like the people that come for the weekend AT ALL. The roads are a NARROW. We had a lot of issues getting into our site because a seasonal camper parked their car in the exact spot we needed to swing our truck to get into our site. The owners were not there to move it and not close when the office called them. It was either cut it too soon and end up super close to the trees on the door side of the camper, or cut it too late and not be in the site at all or back into a tree. Then you had the seasonal people coming around on their golf carts (and parking in the road) to watch and use you as entertainment and poke fun at you. We actually had one of them say they don't like weekenders because they are always asking them to move their cars so they can back into their site. This was after they said we needed to be over more and told them we couldn't because of the car. We ended up not staying because we could not get our camper positioned where it needed to be. They did offer us a different site, but it was in the sun up front by the road. My brother also had a site on the lake, and said if he wasn't on a corner in the road, they wouldn't have been able to get in to their site either. I have been pulling a camper for almost 20 years, and I've never had an issue like this. Our camper is only 31 feet tongue to bumper, and would have fit the site with no issues. If they were to make a rule that the seasonal campers that leave their camper there all the time are not allowed to leave vehicles next to the road UNLESS they are there to move it, I would not recommend trying to camp here unless you have a small camper, or a class b/c drivable RV that can be maneuvered into a site more easily. As stated, the staff did what they could, and would have even towed the car if there was a tow truck available. The facilities looked nice with plenty of activities for the kids. I really want to like this KOA, but some things need to be addressed with the seasonal campers. Both with parking/availability to move their car, and their attitude toward weekenders. If the car had been a few feet toward their camper, I probably wouldn't have had an issue backing in.
Yes. Most of the park is seasonal, but it’s a large park. And very clean/tidy. Plenty of large non-seasonal sites, lots of grass, with/without patios. We stayed overnight w/36’ Georgetown and a toad and extra car - plenty of room - easy to level. Lots of walking space, which makes our dogs happy. Staff very friendly. A keeper spot.
Disappointing Stay – Not as Advertised We were really looking forward to our stay at Hogback Lake KOA, but it didn’t live up to expectations. We booked and paid for a site that was supposed to be on the fishing pond, but were placed next to a ditch that feeds into it—not what was advertised. To make matters worse, the pond had no fish in it, making the whole “fishing” aspect pointless. Our site was also right next to a busy highway, so traffic noise was constant and took away from any sense of peace or nature. To be fair, the campground was clean and well-maintained, but it felt like most of the focus was geared toward the seasonal or long-term sites—not short-term visitors like us. Overall, it was a disappointing experience and we won’t be returning.
Overall I liked this campground , it was clean- the bathrooms were fine but the seasonal campers detract from the experience. Many of them have junk all over their area, Tacky looking items like plastic ornaments, overloaded with furniture etc. but the worst is the endless stream of golf carts, they drive in circles- all day- every day.
Only disappointment was our beach site had the neighbors fire ring directly behind us and ours was off to the side. They partied for a while and it was uncomfortable with them behind like that. I will stay here again just make sure I know my site isnt that one.
Cabins have no shade, no privacy and setting on top of the other cabins. Charge 50$ for sand on the concrete and ashes in the pit!! It’s all about money at this place
