My family and i have been coming here once a year for a camping trip. Its beautiful and so wild. We love that there is plenty of open space between campsites. And group campsites are large and have enough tables to occupy large groups. We love hearing the loons, geese, cranes, coyotes and owls at night. Our favorite place to camp 100%. Its $17 a night and there is plenty of exploring and mucking around the kids can do
Had a really nice time van camping here. We had site 19, which offered lots of space and privacy. All the sites seem to be spaced apart well, but some sites have less tree coverage than others, leaving them more exposed and they definitely vary in ground space and distance from the road. There are several walk-in sites available too. Potable water is available, and the vault toilets are well maintained. We saw the camp hosts (James and Kelly, they were awesome!) bike through a few times and even heard them reminding folks that the generators need to be turned off by quite time (10pm-8am), which we appreciated. Road has some bumpy spots throughout, so be mindful. The beach was nice and sandy, but it is smaller. Fortunately, only about 4 other groups were there when we went and had plenty of space. We will definitely come back and highly recommend for those interested in a semi primitive camping experience!
Had fun! There’s a lot of sandy spots by the lake the set up the tent by. There’s a fire pit and a bench. Not much parking other than one spot at the site. I think it was entirely too close to the other campers. That’s my fault for not doing enough research. You will get poison ivy in them woods so be careful. Other than that it’s an okay spot to spend the night with the kids. Not for younger/louder crowds.
A fantastic place to camp even for a night!! There’s a picnic table and fire pit at each of the campsites. The fee is $17 which is reasonable for a nice inset campsite with a decent amount of space. The campground hosts I met were the sweetest people I have met on my travels!!!
Great spot for first-come, first serve camping on or near a beautiful lake. The accommodations are simple but present where needed, the sites are big, there are a ton of trails, beaches/easy access to the lake, it’s fairly quiet and the campground hosts were above par!! We noticed the northern lights were peaking from our site and were able to catch a spectacular show when we drive just a bit out for a clear shot north. IMO the best sites are 9 & 34, 34 is a walk in but it’s not too far and views are similar to 9. 10 is nice but one of the trails runs right through the back of the site which was very confusing for the doggo. Because this is a state forest campground, there’s no ice or firewood for sale but there are gas stations near by. Fall colors were incredible this time of year!
