First time visiting and I would absolutely go back. The park is beautiful! Plenty of opportunities to see Bison, horses at the each and if you’re lucky, porcupine! Lots of hiking/biking trails but everything is in direct sun. Several drop toilet spots. The road past the ranch was closed on the day we went (might be for seasonal closing) so the only way to get to the end of the island was to hike from the ranch parking lot.
The park is beautiful. I've been going here ever since I was a little kid, and it's gorgeous. It may not be the most impressive or pristine place, but having a state park with trails and camp grounds practically in my own backyard struck a chord with me. I love it here, despite the bugs! This park is good for both extreme hikers and novice groups wanting to hang out and enjoy the Great Salt Lake (or at least what's left of it) There aren't many amenities here, and a lot of stuff is closed most of the time, but it's still a beautiful place to hike and enjoy mother nature.
This place is very unique and beautiful in its own way. It is like going to another country. Felt like we were in the middle of nowhere, yet we were a few minutes out of town. The lake was beautiful and the trails were really fun. We did an Ebike ride. The dirt was mostly dry. An amazing bike ride for the end of February in Northern Utah. We saw lots of wildlife and some cool country.
Expansive park with scenic views of Great Salt Lake. We saw lots of wildlife; buffalo, birds, coyotes, owls, and horses. The Fielding Garr ranch was neat to stop at; there was a lot of antique farm equipmemt and magnificent horses. There were also quite a few buffalo roaming around by the side of the road. Do not approach! A hike up to buffalo point yielded excellent views of the entire Salt Lake valley 🗻
I go here often and it's a beautiful place to view bison. Early morning and sunset are best for great scenery. Several hiking trails around the island. Best time of year is fall and winter in my opinion, otherwise you are dealing with bugs, excessive heat, and sulphuric odors. I've camped here and saw rabbit, coyote, deer, and lots of birds.
