If you are looking for.paved roads or sites this isn't the campground for you. If you are looking for a simple nice camping experience it is. Interstate 95 is close and can be heard outside but not in our rv. Everett was very accommodating. We arrived at 9:30 a m. He let us check in. No additional charge. He kept the brewery open late for us. Really enjoyed walking the dog in the wooded portions of the campground.
I want to stress to anyone that is considering Aquia Pines Resort for a camping trip, this is NO RESORT. The photos speak for themselves. We chose this campground for it's proximity to D.C. and that it's open in the winter. However, on New Year's day we came back to our RV to find the owner had put a lock on our water and anyone else that wasn't "winterized". This was his practice for the rest of our stay (there is a photo of this attached). Originally at check in he mentioned he was going to shutdown the water on Friday because of the expected cold snap. Additionally he didn't come around to remove the lock and restore our water supply until after 9:30. My husband spoke to him about this and he was more concerned about his equipment than our welfare. So after we left we went to South Carolina and have had temperatures in the 20"s most nights. The approach from this resort was to inform its visitors to take appropriate measures such as disconnecting the water source and dripping the water to prevent freezing. This has been the approach at every campground that we have been to in the winter. It's an insult to all the patrons of Aquia Pines to suggest they are incompetent and won't do the right thing. So again, please look at the photos. There are serious concerns as to the safety of patrons when you look at the playground area. The slide is about 3 feet off the ground (if in doubt see the photo with the woman at the end of the slide). There is also a large hole that has wood on the perimeter that is basically in the playground (also in the photos). So please, please, please look at the photos. Look at the photo of outside the office. It's a great representation of what you can expect. The owner likes to victim blame too. Look at other negative reviews. He basically talks trash to any one that doesn't give good review. We were no exception. The photos speak for them selves. Aquia Pines is a dump. It is plain to see. The photos reflect the quality of Aquia Pines and the owner is an absolute jerk. When he locked up the water and doesn't remove the lock until late the next morning it's kind of hard to fill your holding tank when you have things to do. We didn't realize waiting on the owner would be necessary. LOOK AT THE PHOTOS and read the owners replies. THIS PLACE IS A DUMP AND THERE IS NO CUSTOMER SERVICE. Oh and by the way, my husband is a Building Inspector holding both national and international licenses. He knows about things like the water issue. Locking the water wouldn't keep the pipes from bursting when they are above ground. Guess the owner didn't think about that.
Secluded, but near everything. Heavily wooded, but located in the midst of an urban location. Older facilities, but clean and well maintained. Superb laundry room, hot showers, efficient RV power pedestals. Tight roads but easily navigable for my 30ft Travel Trailer. Lots of room between sites, but bring some 2x6 to get level. High and dry, you wont get flooded out here. Oh, and did I mention great prices?
This was our first "longer" time stay at a camp ground. I absolutely loved it. Location is great and grounds are great. If you have a chance swing by Wild Run brewery and get you an exquisite beer. 10/10
