Back Country Campsite #2 is strategically located at Starkey Wilderness Bike Trail, Odessa, FL 33556. This campsite serves as an ideal base for exploring the diverse natural attractions of Florida's central region, including nearby lakes, wildlife reserves, and other points of interest. The campsite is part of a larger wilderness area, offering campers a chance to immerse themselves in nature while enjoying a variety of outdoor activities.
Back Country Campsite #2 is known for its "primitive" nature, which means it offers a more rugged camping experience compared to traditional RV parks or developed campgrounds. However, the campsite's location right off the paved bike trail makes it convenient for visitors who want easy access to and from their campsites without having to venture too far into the wilderness.
One of the unique aspects of this campsite is its controlled burn area. Recent burns in the vicinity mean that firewood may be limited, so visitors are encouraged to bring their own or plan accordingly. The lack of privacy due to its proximity to the bike trail and occasional noise from passing cyclists should also be considered by those seeking a more secluded camping experience.
If you're planning a trip to Florida's central region and are looking for an authentic camping experience, Back Country Campsite #2 is an excellent choice. Whether you're an avid cyclist looking to explore the Starkey Wilderness Bike Trail or simply someone who wants to enjoy nature in a more primitive setting, this campsite offers something for everyone.
Don't forget to bring your biking gear and hiking boots, as there are plenty of trails and points of interest nearby. If you're visiting with a group, consider booking in advance to ensure availability, especially during peak seasons. Experience the beauty of Starkey Wilderness at Back Country Campsite #2 today!

Fun but it was not "Back Country". "Primitive", yes. Right off the paved trail with no privacy. It was a nice size, with a picnic table and fire pit. A controlled burn was done very recently so very little wood or small pieces were around.
Just follow the bike trail for about 5 miles or so. The sign is visible from the bike trail, you can't miss it. This campsite is actually RIGHT off the bike trail, which is great if you want to bike to it but not quite as private as the other campsites. You will definitely hear bikers in the morning.
It's a magical site, a little far to get to, but you're right next to a river and it's quite secluded even though it is right next to the bike path. If you're there at the right time of year, wild blackberries grow all around it.
Nice campsite right off the trail Open area with table and fire pit Trees for hammocks
I would not camp here. its a good 5 miles from the parking lot and there are no restrooms or any other facilities nearby. Im not sure how you would get your camp gear out here. If you want to be in the middle of nowhere with nature then this is your spot.
