Great place to cool off!!!! At about 4000ft it's 10 degrees cooler than at the base of the mountain. Lots of shade and full RV hookups make this my favorite place to go to beat the summer heat. There is so much to do nearby. We spent 5 days and still have more places to explore. We will definitely be back. The owner was very nice and checked in daily to make sure everything was perfect.

When summer's heat is a misery, go to Back Ridge Shadows! It was 100 degrees in the valley on the day we arrived, but it was a pleasant, somewhat breezy 85 degrees at Back Ridge Shadows, due to the 4,000 foot elevation of this campground. As I write this review, most of Sawmill Run Road, the shortest access road from highway 28, is being paved. Eber, the proprietor, is attentive and concerned that his residents have a pleasant stay. Our campsite was mostly shaded and exposed to the full sun for only about two hours per day. It was very quiet and peaceful at Back Ridge Shadows. There is very little traffic on the road past the campground, and the sounds of wildlife in the woods were quite noticeable. It is a small, quiet and highly secluded campground that is extremely satisfactory for those who want to experience the sounds and presence of nature.

Had a wonderful 3 night stay tent camping here in early October. The owners were so attentive and helpful and checked in every evening (but not obtrusive). Easy access to electric and water spigot. The pit toilets were as pleasant as pit toilets can be (toilet paper was provided which is very nice). Great big picnic table was near our site and fire pit that you could move around were great. Very peaceful and the leaves were beginning to change. Would definitely camp here again if in the area.

We had a wonderful stay at back ridge shadows. The campsite and the facilities (the restrooms) are very well maintained. There’s firewood and ice available at the site. Each tent site is also equipped with an electrical power outlet which was really convenient for us. Most importantly, the campsite’s host Eber was so warm, welcoming and kind to us. We’re thankful that we got to stay here and get to know Eber.

April 19-16th 2025: the views and the serenity! Eber is a great, friendly host- He and I spent about an hour chatting one evening. If you are looking for an RV or tent site that's actually on the mountains, contact these folks. We brought our 33' travel trailer up the mountain and stayed in site 5 with full hookup. The folks on the narrow road up/down the mountain were patient to make room for us and we had a wonderful time exploring the Monongahela National Forest.

The host was great and very responsive to our questions via text. Firewood is available for purchase. Water spigot is available for tent campers. Small restrooms available for tent campers as well. This entire area has very weak cell phone service, so if you want to listen to music, make sure you have it downloaded on your phone before you go. Very close to Spruce knob overlook and spruce knob lake. If you need ice, D&K diary bar is not too far away. If they are closed, the Sunoco station in Circleville also has it. One thing I will add, though, if the tent camping area is fully booked, I can see it being pretty crowded. Maybe ask the host how busy it is and take that into consideration.
