Backcountry campground Introduce

Welcome to Backcountry campground, a distinct offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, located off Unnamed Road in Lake George, Colorado (80827). This campground provides a unique camping experience centered around a walk-in approach to its campsites.

Environment: Backcountry campground is lauded by visitors as an exceptionally beautiful location. One reviewer described it as "THE most beautiful campground I’ve ever seen," with campsites nestled along the water, between boulders, and surrounded by trees, creating a stunning natural setting. The area also features great trails for hiking, indicating a picturesque and potentially rugged environment perfect for outdoor exploration.

Services: As a backcountry walk-in campground, the services may differ from traditional campgrounds with drive-up sites. One key piece of information is the parking situation: if your vehicle registration does not include a Colorado state park pass, parking costs $10 cash via a drop box. The primary service appears to be the provision of secluded campsites accessible only by hiking. Further details about specific amenities like water sources, restroom facilities, or fire pits at individual sites are not provided in the reviews and would require additional research or information from the managing authority.

Features: The standout feature of Backcountry campground is its walk-in campsites, requiring a significant hike to reach. One review details a hike of approximately 0.8 to 1 mile over challenging terrain, including hills, mountains, and rocky, steep paths. This feature emphasizes a more secluded and immersive natural experience, though it also means transporting gear can be difficult, and some visitors have found the distance prohibitive. The campground also offers access to great hiking trails directly from the area. The beauty of the natural surroundings, including the water access for some sites, is a significant feature.

Promotional Information: There is no specific promotional information mentioned in the provided reviews. Information regarding camping fees, reservations, or any potential discounts would likely be available through the official website of the managing entity (possibly a state park or forest service) or a relevant booking platform. Given the parking fee structure tied to the state park pass, it might be associated with the Colorado Parks and Wildlife system.

Backcountry campground near Lake George, CO, offers a unique and beautiful walk-in camping experience for those willing to undertake a significant hike to their secluded sites. First overnight camping experience and really enjoyed it. Our campsite was not too far away from the parking lot, so that was cool. If you do not have the state park pass associated with your vehicle registration, parking is $10 cash in a drop box. Great trials to hike, definitely looking forward to many more trips out here! ⛺

This is THE most beautiful campground I’ve ever seen in my life! The campsite we had was along the water, nestled between some boulders, with trees all around us was stunning to say the least! My only complaint/gripe about this experience was that the hike from our car to the actual campsite was LONGGGGGG. I’d say about .8mi-1mi of pure hiking up and down large hills/mountains, going over rocks, winding steep paths. Reallyyyy difficult to bring alot of stuff with you to the campsite. Met multiple people who turned around and abondoned their reservation just because the hike to the campsite was too long. This campsite is called “Backcountry Walk-in” and it’s very literal in that you really are taking the BACKCOUNTRY just to get to your site. Just push through and it will all be worth it in the end!

Absolutely beautiful, but yes, you do have to backpack everything in. The parking lot is at least a half mile away.

Most beautiful place. Will go again. Now we know what to expect. Very private camp sites. Always bring cash. Entrance fee is 10.- cash only for park. There is also a general store for wood and necessities. Great fishing, kayaking. Only gave 4 stars cause we were not aware of how far and difficult it was to reach our camp site from parking lot. Had to leave 80 percent of gear in vehicle since the hike was too far and too steep to our spot 916. We have seen people turning around and leave their hike to go back to their vehicle. It should be mentioned on website that this is not a straight shot walking to the sites. There are many sites and the area is big. Half a mile to 3/4 of a mile is not accurate. It is backcountry camping, so be a good walker/hiker. Pack very lightly! Overall though: amazing!!

Hike, boat or paddle in to nicely separated, quiet campsites with great views. Many near water and with shade. Park service keeps outhouses clean and regularly removes trash from bear proof containers. Best to use bear box storage near outhouses more to keep chipmunks and ground squirrels out than bears. Great fishing and paddling among rock formations. Windy at times. No mosquitos but some biting flies deterred by deet.
