Family Camping Activities for All Ages: Games, Hiking, and Campfire Fun
Explore family camping activities that bring all ages together, from outdoor games and scenic hikes to memorable campfire fun that creates lasting memories.
Welcome to Badger Flats Campsite, a unique offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, located on Forest Rd 224, Lake George, CO 80827. This campsite provides a more rustic, backcountry camping experience on Bureau of Land Management (BLM) land.
Environment: Badger Flats Campsite offers a wide selection of dispersed camping spots, allowing visitors to choose locations with different views, including both trees and mountains. The terrain is generally not level. The access to the campsite involves a roughly 2-mile drive in, which is described as pretty rough. Despite this, the area can accommodate various sizes of RVs, with numerous options available.
Services: As a BLM land campsite, Badger Flats Campsite does not offer standard campground services. Specifically, there is no water, no electric hookups, no dump station for RVs, and no trash service provided. Campers are expected to adhere to a "pack out what you pack in" policy, meaning all trash and waste must be taken with you when you leave. The reviews mention the presence of new fire pits at the marked dispersed campsites.
Features: A primary feature of Badger Flats Campsite is the abundance of dispersed camping opportunities, allowing for a more secluded and independent camping experience. It is located in an area known for off-road vehicle activity, so visitors should expect to encounter such vehicles. Campers are reminded to respect off-road travel signs and trails. Responsible camping practices are emphasized, including proper disposal of waste, both human and trash, and parents are encouraged to educate their children about litter prevention.
Please note that no promotional information is available for Badger Flats Campsite. This is a self-service camping area requiring campers to be fully prepared with their own supplies and to practice Leave No Trace principles.

Absolutely LOVE this camping spot. This was our second time here. This is BLM land no water, no electric, no dump, no trash. PACK OUT WHAT YOU PACK IN. There are so many spots to choose from with different views either trees or mountains. Nothing is level of course and the 2 mile drive in (we didn't go to far in) is pretty rough. We have a 25ft class c rv. I think just about any size would fit there are so many options.
Great place to camp! Marked dispersed camp sites with new fire pits. It is a off road vehicle area, so expect that! People need to respect the off road travel signs and trails, much much much better! And parents please teach your kids about picking up there snack pacs, sippy fruit drink packages their water bottle caps! Adults if you don't know how to poop in the woods, then stay home and poop in your yard!
Free dispersed campsites all over. Some marked some not but there’s plenty to choose from. Roads getting around are better than most of the others I’ve been to. Once you get deeper in it gets a little hairy. Wouldn’t venture to far on 704 without a high clearance & 4WD vehicle. We stayed a little over a week, hardly saw another soul other than the occasional jeep or 4 wheeler. Will definitely be coming back.
Really enjoyed my evening here! Dont be deterred by "no camping" signs right off the main road, you have to drive about a mile further down to get to the national forest and where the dispersed camping begins which has signs posted. Could see some how this area might be rowdy at times as there as plenty of off road trails throughout, but it was a quiet night for me and my spot had everything I needed!
Found this place by accident. Nice big campsite! Very quiet. Beautiful. By 11am, tons of flys tho. 🫤
Many sites to camp in, with large fire pit rings. Great place to also ride off road vehicles.
