WHY VISIT? 1. Walking out onto this surreal, flat white plane is unworldly. It somehow takes visitors away to some mystic land that is nothing like what we have experienced before. I underestimated its power. 2. It’s flat. It’s an easy walk, roll, or scoot for everyone (very accessible!). You can see for miles, so there are no surprises. 3. Spend as much time as you like. It’s an easy stop if you don’t have much time to invest. Or, if the temps happen to be decent, spend some time soaking up the vibes. 4. Decent amount of parking. 5. Vault toilets available. 6. Bragging rights: You get to say you’ve been at the lowest point below sea level in the USA! WHY SKIP? I don’t know that I would drive a great distance to see this, but if you’re even remotely close to this amazing piece of landscape, there’s really no reason not to stop by and have a look. Extreme heat would be the only caution, so check the weather first. On our visit, we almost skipped walking on these salty flats… I’m glad we changed our minds. It was really wild.
Welcome to the lowest point on the planet and the hottest. Very popular and busy place but a must-visit in the park. Behind the parking lot you’ll see a sign up on the bluff for sea level, which is pretty awesome. You can go out as far as you wish, not an official “trail”, just don’t be an idiot and wander around for a long time in the summer and make EMS deal with you ;). Take the excessive heat warnings seriously.

Impressive viewpoint at the lowest point in North America. The drive from Furnace Creek takes about half an hour. Visitors can explore the landscape, take photos and walk across the salt. There is also a restroom on site. Before driving on, I recommend removing the salt from your shoes, otherwise everything will end up in the car.
