Located within the secure confines of Barksdale Air Force Base in Bossier City, this campground provides a distinctive experience for authorized users, including active-duty military, National Guard, Reservists, retired military personnel, and 100% disabled veterans. It's not just a place to park your RV or pitch your tent; it's an opportunity to experience a quiet, wooded setting with easy access to a wealth of on-base facilities and nearby Shreveport-Bossier City attractions.
Many Louisianans appreciate direct access to the outdoors, and Barksdale AFB FamCamp delivers with its quiet atmosphere and abundant natural surroundings. Visitors consistently note the peacefulness of the area, making it an ideal spot for unwinding after a long week or as a convenient stop during travels. While some areas might require a bit of upkeep, the overall value and prime location make it a recurring choice for many families and individuals who frequently visit the Shreveport-Bossier City area. The presence of trails and nearby forests further enhances its appeal for those who enjoy walking, biking, or simply being amidst nature.
Beyond the natural setting, the FamCamp's position on an active military base offers an added layer of security and a host of benefits, from commissaries and exchanges to fitness centers and recreational activities. This combination of natural beauty and urban convenience ensures that your stay at Barksdale AFB FamCamp can be as relaxing or as active as you desire, making it a truly versatile destination for those exploring Louisiana's northwestern region.
Barksdale AFB FamCamp is located at Fam Camp, 6341 Range Rd, Barksdale AFB, LA 71110, USA. This address places it approximately ten miles east of Shreveport, LA, within the expansive Barksdale Air Force Base. Being situated on a military installation means that access is restricted to authorized personnel, primarily active duty, National Guard, Reservists, retired military, and 100% disabled veterans. Guests of authorized personnel may also be permitted. Visitors should be prepared to present proper military identification upon entry to the base gates.
Access to the FamCamp itself is generally straightforward once on base. The campground is located within a scenic, wooded wildlife-managed area known as the East Reservation, just off Range Road. While it offers a secluded and quiet feel, it remains well-connected to the main facilities of Barksdale Air Force Base, including the Base Exchange, Commissary, fitness center, and various dining options, all within a short drive.
For those traveling by RV, the campground features concrete pads and wide lanes, facilitating easy navigation and setup for vehicles of various sizes. The Bodcau Gate is often noted as the closest gate to the FamCamp, with specific operating hours to be aware of. Travelers are advised to verify gate open times, especially if arriving after hours, as staff typically leave maps and directions for late arrivals. While the campground offers a feeling of being immersed in nature with its surrounding forests and trails, its proximity to the Shreveport/Bossier City metropolitan area means that off-base attractions, including shopping centers, restaurants, casinos, and museums, are also easily accessible.

The commitment of the staff to good customer service, coupled with the inherent benefits of being on a military installation, makes Barksdale AFB FamCamp a reliable and rewarding choice for locals eligible to stay. We've stayed here several times because we have family in the area. Customer service is good but the cleanliness and overall condition leave a bit to be desired. The grass is very high, especially around water/electric hookup. The AC in the restrooms and laundry area were either turned off or not working. The laundry room had not been cleaned in a while and one of the washers was out of order. The washer has apparently been needing a part for quite a while as the notes on it looked old. We'll probably be back just because of the cost and convenience but we were disappointed with the overall condition of things.
Good RV park, though it's about a 13 minute drive around the flight line from the main part of the base. Commercial gate was closed so we had to enter through main gate where security may have to move barriers for long rigs, as they did for a fellow RVer. Park consists of an older park and a newer adjacent open-spaced park with level concrete pads. Dirt roads have pot holes. Confusing to get around - better signage would help. There is as an adequate laundry room. Base exchange has a food court and Starbucks. If on a short stay, recommend the Louisiana Boardwalk in Bossier City, a 15 drive from base. It's a modern shopping area on the Red River.

My wife and I stayed on site 50 for a week visiting with our daughter and son-in-law. The concrete pad was large enough for our 30’ travel trailer and tow vehicle. The full hook ups worked without issue, the grounds were well maintained, the environment was quiet and peaceful and the price inexpensive. The Barksdale Famcamp comes well recommend

A little confusing when you follow Google's directions and enter a narrow roadway and cannot see an office, but do see two prominent signs on either side of the road - one says OFF DUTY HOST and the other says ON DUTY HOST. Yup, you guessed it, I parked my RV and toad (75' in total) right there and knocked on rhe trailer door of the ON DUTY HOST. No answer, but a nice neighbor told me I could find the office about 75' up the road. The two staff members were GREAT - professional, pleasant, personable, and helpful. I was directed to the RV park in the next entrance down the road and WOW! 24 spacious, clean and well maintained concrete leveled pads with a concrete slab for your tow vehicle. The bathhouse is the cleanist, neatest, airconditioned shower and toilet area EVER! Only staying 1 night now, but will definitely be back. Well done Barksdale AFB!!!
