Basin Creek Campground Introduce

Nestled in the heart of Stanley, Idaho, Basin Creek Campground is a hidden gem for those seeking a tranquil escape from the bustling tourist hotspots. This former Forest Service campground offers a unique blend of privacy, natural beauty, and simplicity, making it an ideal destination for campers who appreciate the raw charm of the outdoors.

Located away from the more crowded areas near Redfish Lake and along Highway 75, Basin Creek Campground provides a serene alternative to the often-packed larger campgrounds. With only a handful of sites (approximately six), this campground ensures a more intimate and secluded experience. Each site comes equipped with a picnic table and a metal fire ring, perfect for cozy evenings under the stars. An outhouse is conveniently located near sites 3-6, adding a touch of convenience to your rustic adventure.

One of the standout features of Basin Creek Campground is its proximity to Basin Creek, where the soothing sounds of flowing water create a peaceful ambiance. However, it's important to note that the area has faced natural challenges in the past, including flooding in 2006 and more recent wildfires. Campers are advised to proceed with caution and be prepared for varying conditions.

Accessing the campground via Basin Creek Road can be an adventure in itself, especially after dark, as the road runs along a cliff above a river. While the road may be a bit intimidating, it is generally accessible without the need for 4x4 or high-clearance vehicles, as of August 2020.

Customer feedback highlights the campground's appeal:

  • "Away from much busier larger forest service campgrounds near Redfish Lake and along 75, as well as the 'dirt lots' of dispersed camping... it's an old forest service campground that is no longer... which means no camp host, firewood, and FREE."
  • "I loved sleeping next to the creek and having a lot more privacy and beauty!"
  • "Very pretty but had extremely bad wind every day. (This tent had stakes with rocks on the stakes)"

Basin Creek Campground is a testament to the beauty of simplicity and the allure of untouched nature. Whether you're a seasoned camper or a first-time adventurer, this campground offers a unique opportunity to connect with the wilderness in a way that few other places can. Pack your gear, embrace the adventure, and discover the magic of Basin Creek Campground.

away from much busier larger forest service campgrounds near redfish lake and along 75, as well as the "dirt lots" of dispersed camping... it's an old forest service campground that is no longer... which means no camp host, firewood, and FREE. in the past, the area has flooded (2006?) and burned (more recently), so proceed with caution. there's only a few sites (6?) but you'll get a picnic table, metal fire ring, and an outhouse near sites 3-6. basin creek road is a bit scary in the dark because it runs along a cliff above a river, but doesn't seem to need 4x4 or high clearance (aug 2020). i loved sleeping next to the creek and having a lot more privacy and beauty!

Nice spot. The campsites are far enough from the highway to be very quiet. Hunters and others often camp here. Vault toilet still accessible (November 2021). Picnic table and fire ring at each site.
