Bass Lake dispersed campsite Introduce
Welcome to Bass Lake dispersed campsite, a unique offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, providing a rustic and secluded camping experience near Manistique, Michigan. Located at Ff Rd 2792, Manistique, MI 49854, this site caters to those seeking a true wilderness escape.
Bass Lake dispersed campsite is a small, intimate site suitable for up to two tents. It boasts excellent tree coverage, providing ample shade throughout the day. The location is a significant draw, situated right on the edge of Bass Lake with convenient kayak launch access. You can expect beautiful morning sunrises and late sunsets, enhancing your outdoor experience.
For hammock enthusiasts, there is at least one ideal spot on the site. However, it's important to note that the site lacks a picnic table and has an in-ground fire ring without a grate. There are no toilet facilities, which is typical for dispersed camping.
The site is particularly appealing for kayak fishing, as Bass Lake offers extensive exploration opportunities. A creek across the lake leads to Three Island Lake, known for better pike and bass fishing, although the trek there involves navigating shallow, brush-filled waters. The road leading to the campsite is in good condition, but the turnaround is tight, making it challenging for trailers or RVs. It's approximately 35-40 minutes from Munising.
Here are some insights from previous visitors:
- "Small dispersed site. Not much room for more than 2 tents. Great tree coverage, keeps the camp in shade most of the day. Location is great, right on the edge of Bass lake with a adequate kayak launch. Beautiful morning sunrises and late sunsets. If you like to use a hammock there is at least one great spot on site. No picnic table is a con for me, but there isn’t really any room for one. The fire ring is in ground without a grate. No toilet here that we saw, wasn’t a big deal if you like dispersed camping. This was a great spot for kayak fishing because there is a lot of lake to explore and there is a creek across the lake from the site that connects to a smaller lake (Three Island Lake) where we caught pike and Bass all day everyday. The road leading into the camp is in good shape with a turnaround that will be very tight for anyone with a trailer or RV. 35-40 minutes from Munising."
- "The camp site here is very nice, although as the review earlier states- it doesn’t have a picnic table nor a grate to cook on. There is plenty of down wood around for your fires, and the entry into the water is perfect for kayaks/canoes. The lake is also very pretty. The downside - we fished this lake for 2 days, and caught only one baby perch. We did kayak through the channel to get to Three Island Lake, the fishing there was much better- however the trek to get there is intense. Very shallow water- overgrown with brush(that is home to many spiders, so be prepared to be covered in them when you’ve made it through). The other downside I had for this site, people. We had people drive down the long windy road to the campsite several times. The campsite is the only thing on the road! We’re dispersed camping because we don’t want to see people! We put “downed logs” across the road to deter people, it didn’t work! They got out and moved the logs to get through! This would be semi acceptable to me if our tent and camp wasn’t in view of the logs their moving. Some of these people came up at 730am, 1 drove up at 9pm. What were they thinking? The road dead ends at our campsite. People had to turn around right next to our tent. We had to move the car twice for people. Needless to say it was extremely irritating. If choosing this site, just know that people will be driving up at all hours of the day."
If you're seeking a remote and natural camping experience, Bass Lake dispersed campsite offers a unique opportunity to connect with nature. However, be prepared for limited amenities and potential disturbances from other visitors.

I would give it 5 stars for the view, 4 stars for the layout and 0 stars for the mosquitoes! Rustic camping, no amenities.
Loved camping here. The lake isn't great for swimming but it is good for fishing and kayaking. Very secluded in the Hiawatha National Forest.
