Basswood Resort offers a unique “camping meets adventure” experience, successfully bridging the tranquility of a natural setting with the convenience and fun of a modern resort. While the resort maintains beautifully maintained common areas, with a spotless playground and well-kept sites, guests planning to utilize the cabin rentals should be aware of a common theme in feedback: while the grounds are well-maintained, some older lodging units, particularly specific cabins, have been noted by customers as needing updates and more thorough cleaning to match the high quality of the resort's outdoor facilities. However, the overwhelming consensus on the resort's fun activities, clean communal amenities (like the spotless bathrooms), and the helpfulness of the staff solidifies its standing as a major family attraction near the Kansas City area.
The resort's commitment to providing a fun, packed schedule, often featuring events like Foam Wagon Rides, Watergun Shootout Rides, and Flashlight Lollipop Hunts, makes it a reliable choice for creating lasting family memories without having to travel far from the city.

The ability to fish without a license in the four stocked lakes adds a simple, cost-effective activity that is loved by all ages.
While prospective guests considering a cabin rental should review their specific unit's condition upon arrival—acknowledging that some older cabins may show signs of wear and tear, and may require self-sufficiency with initial supplies—the immense value of the resort's shared amenities, immaculate grounds, and dedicated focus on fun activities make Basswood Resort the go-to destination for an action-packed, convenient, and memorable family camping vacation near Kansas City.

We rented the cabin that sleeps 8. The cabin is laid out okay, there is no way you could get eight people in this cabin. There were two of us and it was just enough room for us. The cabin definitely needs an update. There is a small table with four bar stools to eat at, but we could not use it because falling apart. The dirt, dust, and filth inside the cabinet was a huge turn off. The toilet, sink, shower, refrigerator, and microwave where wiped down but everything else was filthy. The dust and grime in every corner and on top of every flat surface above the cabinets, around the tv, in the window sills, and on other flat surfaces was terrible. The window shade in the kitchen window is filthy. The exhaust fan above the stove is full of years of grime, grease, and dead bugs. It does not look like the paneling on the walls has been wiped down since the 80's. The walls around the sink in the bathroom are full of grime and toothpaste splatter. Multiple cabinet doors and the drawers are broken and falling apart. The screen door at the entry is falling off. Many of the windows do not have screens in them. The main bed is as hard as a rock. You are unable to adjust the temperature in the main part of the cabin above 65 degrees because the thermostat is locked. There was a half a roll of toilet paper, one bag in each of the two trash cans, and a few ounces of dish soap on the sink. There were no other supplies inside the cabin, or information on how to get more of these supplies, so I'm glad I brought my own. This cabin would be great if they updated it and cleaned it. The campground is in a great area and they seem to take care of the grounds very well except for the area where the permanent campers have set up... this area of the campground is very run down. It doesn't appear they have to follow any rules and it looks like an old trailer park with crap laying everywhere. Very trashy. My sister's camped in the very back of the campground in there RVs, everything seemed to be fine there except the Internet in the back part of the campground was terrible. The customer service was amazing. Very nice people who were helpful and accommodating.
We stayed at Basswood Resort for their Halloween weekend and had an absolutely amazing time! This was our first visit, and we were blown away by how much there was to do for all ages. From arts and crafts to the glow parade and the flashlight lollipop hunt, there was never a dull moment! The playground was spotless and such a hit with the kids. We also enjoyed some great fishing and loved ending the evening watching a movie at the outdoor theater under the stars — such a magical touch! The campground is beautifully maintained, with clean bathrooms and well-kept sites that made our stay even more comfortable. The store and pizza shop also have so much to choose from! Every staff member we met was warm, friendly, and went out of their way to help. Special shoutout to Pat for being so kind and helpful! We can’t recommend Basswood Resort enough for families looking for a fun, relaxing getaway — and the fact that it’s pet-friendly is a huge bonus! We’ll definitely be back!
This was our first time here. We had a great time! There were lots of activities for the family. The playground area was clean and the kids had a lot of fun. Fishing was great, we caught and released about 12 perch and 2 bass. The site is clean, bathrooms were clean and spacious. Everyone that works here is so friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this location for anyone needing a weekend (or longer) getaway!!
The cabins were nice and Have everything you need. We booked several and were spread out. Rent a golf cart. Lots of lakes to fish in. The kids brought bikes and scooters. The staff were super friendly. Lots of amenities. The weekend themes were a blast and there was so much for them to do to keep busy. We will definitely be back! General store has lots of merchandise, Ice cream, and fabulous food options.
I spent the last year at Basswood Resort as a full time RV'er. I've been camping since I was a kid and have never seen a campground pour so much of their heart into creating a fun place to live. There are so many activities for both kids and parents to participate in on a regular basis. The park is kept clean and is well maintained. The country store is well stocked and offers delivery service pizzas. I would still be there if the Mountains weren't calling my name. I had great neighbors and I miss the staff who were always around to lend a hand if needed.
