Beautiful place with incredible views. It was nice to get away from the heat and be surrounded by trees and mountains. This seems like a nice place to camp as well. It is a 6 day maximum. The Salt Creek has fishing too. Beautiful…. Watch the road for deer, cows, and it is bear country.
Beautiful scenery but little shade compared to the other two campgrounds near Bear Canyon. If we hadn't brought several shade structures it would have been miserable. Camping area was fairly rocky. Nice big long tables and fire rings nearby. The bathrooms were good. The biggest downside was that there was no potable water. You had to drive a mile or so down the road to the next campground to get water.
This is one of my favorite campground/trailheads near me. Does anyone know if it is open for 2021 yet? The website says the season open April 14th but further down the page says the campground is currently closed as of 4/28. Any info would be appreciated.
10 of us camped at group site C for two nights in late August. There was really only room for 6 or so vehicles parked comfortably. Not sure how you'd fit 50 people here. Plenty of table space for our small group though. The riverbed was dry, and the water spigots have all been removed, so bring your own water. Tent spots were mostly very rocky, which made it really hard to pound stakes in. We managed to fit several hammocks also. The fire pit was full of rocks, which I had to pull out and stack around the edge so we could cook with coals properly. This campground advertises vault and flush toilets on recreation.gov, but the flush toilets were deadbolted and out of order. Looks like they've been that way for a while. This needs to be updated on the website and I personally think the price should be dropped a bit. The one set of vault toilets is shared by all 3 group sites. Luckily the other two sites were empty the weekend we went. Vault toilets did have TP. It is a very pretty spot and we enjoyed our stay.
Looking for a local campsite for some fathers and sons. This is basic but should work out.
