Beautiful hike from Piedra Blanca Trailhead! A few stream crossings so be prepared to get wet. We went in February and weather was good (rained a few hours at night). Camping area had flowing water, bring your filtration systems. Overall, a great spot to do a quick overnight backpacking trip.
About 5 miles hike from Piedra Blanca Trailhead. There is water in the creek when I visited Oct 2017. Bring your own water filter! It seems to be a hunter's camp we saw 2 groups of hunters during our stay.
Great trail for people who are looking for a hike that's not too extraneous. We encountered a few streams that were easy to cross without getting wet. Trail is in good shape but has no shade most of the way to camp.
* Late review - Hiked in four miles with my 10year old during the dry spell we had. If there's no water flowing at the start of your hike, there's not likely any at your camp. Carry in everything you need and carry out everything you brought. Very mild walk in. Expect plenty of company on weekends but there are a wide range of spots to be found to pitch a tent away from the pack.
Fyi major major mosquitoes or other biting bugs at certain time at night... Bring bug spray and itch cream. I thought I only had some bites over our several night backpack camp but at home a few days later they are red, itchy and over 120 bites all over my body 😬! Need water filter, backpacking equipment, please pack out your trash and leave it better than you found it, thank you! Still beautiful and glad people are respectfully taking care of the creek.
