Bear Lake Campground Introduce

Bear Lake Campground offers a unique and secluded camping experience nestled in the heart of Colorado's scenic landscape. Located on County Road 7 in Yampa, this campground is a haven for nature enthusiasts seeking privacy and untouched beauty. Surrounded by thick trees, Bear Lake provides a serene environment where visitors can immerse themselves in nature, away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

One of the standout features of Bear Lake Campground is its stunning natural scenery. The area is known for its breathtaking views, offering campers a picturesque setting that changes with the seasons. Whether you're visiting during the vibrant fall foliage or the snow-capped winter months, there's always something beautiful to behold.

However, accessing this hidden gem isn't without its challenges. The last couple of miles leading to the campground are rough and washboarded, requiring careful driving. Once you arrive, though, the trade-off for the bumpy ride is well worth it, as the beauty and seclusion make up for any inconvenience.

  • Seclusion and Privacy: The dense tree cover provides a sense of privacy, ensuring campers can enjoy their own space without being overlooked by neighbors.
  • Natural Surroundings: Campsites are surrounded by nature, offering a peaceful retreat where visitors can disconnect and recharge.

Bear Lake Campground is particularly popular among those seeking an authentic outdoor experience. While the facilities are basic, they cater to the needs of campers looking to rough it out in nature. The lack of modern amenities like fire pits or picnic tables might be a consideration for some visitors, but those who appreciate rustic camping will find this feature charming.

However, there's one challenge that visitors should be aware of: mosquitoes. During certain times of the year, especially in the warmer months, mosquito populations can be quite high, which may detract from the overall experience despite the natural beauty.

MOSQUITOS. Clouds and hordes and plagues of mosquitos. Even with bug spray on they swarm around you and land on you the whole time you are outside of your tent/camper. The camp sites are beautiful and thick with trees so you don't see your neighbors much but it does make the ground area of the sites a little cramped. The place is absolutely gorgeous, stunning views and greenery. The drive to the campgrpund is mostly paved but the last couple of miles is very rough washboard road and it takes a significant amount of time to traverse it. Ultimately we will not return. We couldn't enjoy the environment with all of the mosquitos.

Bear Lake Campground After seven miles of washboard road down FR900 and CR7 out of Yampa, you arrive at Bear Lake about 9,700 feet. The entire campground (43 sites) is first come first served with no reservations. The sites have good separation between them and most of them are really good sites. Make sure you bring bug spray because the mosquitoes are brutal! I would definitely recommend this campground to anyone that enjoys some seclusion and privacy.
