Belfair State Park Introduce
Welcome to Belfair State Park, a fantastic location that falls under the Campgrounds & RV Parks category and serves as an excellent base for your local explorations in Belfair, Washington. Situated at 3151 WA-300, Belfair, WA 98528, USA, this state park offers a variety of camping options and recreational activities for a memorable outdoor experience.
According to visitor reviews, Belfair State Park is well-regarded for both its camping facilities and its strategic location for exploring the surrounding area. The park features spacious and clean campsites suitable for various types of accommodation, including RVs (with pull-through spots available and full hookups in some loops), tents, and cabin rentals. Many sites offer ample privacy for a comfortable stay.
For RV enthusiasts, select loops (like the Main Loop) provide full hookups, and some sites even offer cell service (Verizon) and basic TV channels. The park is accessible even for larger RVs, with easy setup at the pull-through sites.
Beyond camping, Belfair State Park boasts wide, flat trails throughout the campground leading to a pebble beach, making it easily navigable for people with walkers. The Day Use area is well-equipped with a playground, large grass fields, very clean restrooms and showers, picnic tables, BBQ grills, and direct beach access, making it ideal for day trips as well.
Nature lovers will appreciate the opportunity for wildlife viewing, with Great Blue Herons frequently seen near low tide and Bald Eagles flying overhead. The shallow, warm waters at low tide are also perfect for activities like kayaking. Please note that the rocks can be slippery and the mud deep during low tide, so caution is advised.
A unique feature of Belfair State Park is the seasonal availability for clam, mussel, and oyster harvesting, which is typically open from August through September. This provides a great opportunity for those interested in harvesting shellfish.
For day use parking, a Discovery Pass is required. The park is known for being well-maintained, and after-hours campground noise is not permitted, ensuring a peaceful environment for all visitors.
While most visitors have positive experiences, one reviewer noted potential road noise in campsites located near the main road (specifically site 224). If booking a site near the road, it's something to be aware of, although many may find it easy to overlook, especially during the day when exploring the area.
Overall, Belfair State Park offers a valuable combination of well-equipped campgrounds and RV parks with a range of amenities, beautiful natural surroundings with beach access and trails, and opportunities for wildlife viewing and seasonal shellfish harvesting. It serves as an excellent hub for exploring the Belfair area and provides a well-maintained and enjoyable outdoor experience for local users. We really like Belfair State Park for the park itself and as a hub for exploring. So far, we have stayed in 3 different sites (138, 114 & 224) in 2 different loops (Beach Loop & Main Loop) in our 30-foot glamper. This last weekend was in the Main Loop. All the sites are spacious, clean, and provide enough privacy. We prefer the pull through spots, and it was no problem getting in and setting up. Full hookups, we even had cell service (Verizon), and basic channels come in! It was raining the whole trip but it's expected in February and March. It wasn't busy at all during this time, either. The camp host was friendly and very nice! We did get to see one of the three Great Blue Heron that live in the area around low tide. During low tide, the rocks were a bit slippery, and the mud could get deep! Just use caution. My only complaint is the noise. In site 224, beyond the fence, is the main road. We could hear the road noise all day and night. We did spend a good chunk of time exploring, so the daytime noise didn't bother us, but it is there. It was the night road noise that was bothersome. When you book a site near the main road, it is a gamble, and for some, they can block it out. I just wanted to let people know it's there if they pick the sites near the road. All in all, it was worth it. We like the area and will have preference to some sites but would actually stay in this same site if our preferred sites weren't open.
Wide, flat trails throughout campground to the pebble beach. I saw people with walkers navigating with ease. Camping spaces are roomy: Tent, RV, and Cabin rentals. Day Use area has a Playground, big Grass Fields, very Clean Restrooms/Showers, Picnic Tables, BBQ Grills, and Beach Access. Clam, mussel, and oyster seasons open for harvest August through September. Discovery Pass required for day use parking lot. It's kicked back beach walking and saltwater swimming. Bald eagle flying overhead, and the water was warm shallow low tide. Nice place to kayak. It's a very well taken care of park and unreasonble after hours campground noise isn't allowed.
This is a lovely park! The entire park is paved and mostly flat and is wonderfully wheelchair accessible. The (closed to camping for winter) forest loop is an especially beautiful walk with some minor elevated areas. The park is clean and well maintained and felt mostly safe. We stayed in the accessible spot T2 in the main loop. The public restroom near this spot was barely accessible in my manual wheelchair and is in pretty rough shape / quite old. The shower in this restroom is not accessible (too narrow to enter, lip on shower entrance, shower head too high). I can't believe I have to say this, but the dumpster in the campground is also not wheelchair accessible as it's this crazy oversized trash compactor on which the door is super high up and unreachable from my wheelchair. However, there are garbage cans throughout the park, especially in front of the cabins. I think it would be helpful if the park added such garbage cans near the accessible campsites as well. The bathroom near the ranger station is accessible, but due to the various sketchy men wandering about and leering at me, I did not feel safe using it. Both T-Mobile and Verizon cell service in the main loop was negligible at best (less than 1 mgs upload and download). Cell service was fine on the beach loop and in the day use area of the park near the water. The rangers and staff were very friendly and helpful! The park volunteers were cordial but treated me with clear disapproval. All in all I would return and recommend the park for wheelchair users especially if your van / RV has a loo.
7/12/23 - 3 nights of RV camping with kids ages 6-9 and the dog. This state park is easy to find, access, and exit. It has the standard hours of WA parks. Check-in is 2 pm. Lots of spacious tent and RV sites plus numerous cabins. Two creeks run through the park and are accessible to kids etc. The best RV camping area, by far, is the beach loop. Be aware of where you reserve your site. A few dozen of the sites border a primary road for this area. It is busy and noisy with heavy trucks, motorcycles, emergency vehicles, etc. There's a popular playground near the main entrance and visible from the road. It requires a Discovery Pass. There's an espresso/coffee hut directly across from the park entrance. There are multiple restroom buildings and shower facilities. All of these are fully handicapped accessible. If you found this review to be helpful please consider adding a thumbs-up. 👍
This is a beautiful and well-maintained state park at the end of the Hood Canal. Lots of parking, decent bathrooms, large open spaces, picnic tables, outdoor grills, etc. I haven't camped here yet but it looks like there are some great car-camping spots in addition to plenty of day-use locations. It can get pretty breezy here, so it's a great spot for windsurfing and kite-flying as well. Great park to walk the dog or just enjoy the scenery and take photos. Olympic Otter
