Although we missed the colorful autumn foliage by one week and the leaves were mostly on the ground, it was still a spectacular hiking experience. The smell of the leaves, the sounds they make as we walked, fresh air, two lakes that are connected under a bridge, all were a display for all senses. The staff at the Park Service station were very kind and helpful. There, they also have a good selection of t-shirts, hoodies, and other souvenirs. Since there are no leaves to block the sunlight, I recommend some sun protection and sunglasses even in the Autumn and Winter.
Bellplain State Forest has been our favorite family camping destination for over a decade. We mainly camp off peak season every spring and fall when the park is less traveled, but we visit for day trips during the summer. Its always beautiful and clean. It has lots of trails, a swimming area during summer months at the lake, multiple playgrounds, paved roads for biking, canoeing, kayaking, and fishing. They offer plenty of sites that allow your pets. They offer all types of sites for camping with your tent or RV including rustic camping sites, sites with water and electric, shelter cabins with wood stove heat, and lean-to cabins with propane heat and even some lakeside sites. Camping is available all year round! I always feel safe due to the state police being stationed within 10 minutes of the park. The park is regularly patrolled all throughout the day and evenings. The staff is very involved in making the park fun and they always have activities planned for guests, and are so polite and personable. My kids always loved it, and now my grandchildren do too! I highly recommend spending some time here out in nature 🍄🟫
Very well laid out campsites. Beautiful waks on well signed paths . A chance to connect to nature. Very quiet on the Monday and Tuesday night. On the weekend night I did such a great place to take the family for a getaway
Fun little walk through the trails surrounding lake Nummy. We saw beautiful fall foliage and some geese. Staff at the front entrance were friendly and helpful!
Well-kept campsite, nice lake. Rural area with few amenities and no beach nearby with close car access. No water currently.
