Based on customer reviews, the Benbow SRA Campground offers a mixed experience. On the positive side, it features nice facilities, including restrooms and showers, though some guests have reported issues with slow-working or backed-up toilets, especially during peak times. The campground also provides great beach access, which is a major draw for visitors.
However, a significant drawback is its proximity to Highway 101. A large portion of the campground, approximately 80%, is affected by direct traffic noise, which can be disruptive, particularly at night. While the loop closest to the water offers some buffering from the noise, the sound of cars crossing the bridge can still be heard throughout the night.
Another concern raised by reviewers is the perceived lack of enforcement of campground rules. Some guests have reported instances of loud music and other disruptive behavior, with rangers described as being more focused on "informing" rather than "enforcing" regulations. This may impact the overall tranquility of the camping experience.
Despite these issues, the campground is noted to be family-friendly, with many children enjoying the space. Guests have also generally reported a friendly and welcoming atmosphere.
Features and services mentioned in the reviews include:
Potential campers should be aware of the noise from Highway 101 and the potential for disruptive behavior before making a reservation. The campground's beach access and family-friendly atmosphere are its main attractions.

We had a wonderful time at this campsite. It was memorial weekend 2021 and was packed to the fullest. There are restrooms and showers. The toilets backed up and worked slow but we were all grateful to even have them. We stayed in campsite 6. It’s located right at the front. The traffic noise once i was asleep wasn’t a problem. We did have a crying baby but that’s life no judgement from this mama of 3. We enjoyed our little site! There were a ton of kids they had a bike gang of kids to play with. Great people all around in the camp ground!
Nice facilities great beach access but very close to highway 101 and very near a bridge 80% of the campground is going to be affected by direct traffic noise the loop closest to the water is a little lower and buffered from most of the traffic noise but you can still hear the cars going over the bridge, all night long. The rangers here are, in their own words " here to inform not enforce " which pretty much means do whatever you want go ahead and play your loud music with subwoofers until 2:00 or 3:00 a.m. no problem. Wear masks don't wear masks put 30 people in a campsite whatever you want.
This place was so awesome. Clean cozy and so private it gave the illusion of completely serene solitude. A family destination for sure. Make Benbow Campground a must see for you and your family and friends. Tell em Ray sent ya.
I did not get to see the campground, but shared the river with the campers for a day. So, I can vouch for a great place to swim, grill and picnic. The better shade was on my side of the river.
First time coming here. It was nice, clean and safe. (Photos from the space#27) next to the bathrooms 🚻
