One guest shared, "No less than 2 minutes later, someone approached us. No greeting - first words were 'Whats your room number?' In our travel group, we had three couples stay at three different accomodations while in Carmel. One of the couples stayed here, in Best Western. While walking around, the couple staying at the Best Western needed to stop by their room, so we walked over and waited on a little sitting space, not crowding (4 people) and generally just waiting with gentle conversation. No less than 2 minutes later, someone approached us. No greeting - first words were "Whats your room number?" I gave them the room number of the couple staying there, "That's only for 2 people", indicating to the four people quietly waiting. I was thrown off by such hostility. We were eventually given the "okay" to wait, and the person disappeared as quickly as they had appeared. I'm not sure how I generally feel about this. We actually needed to stay for an additional night, and was originally planning on the Best Western ~ but this experience quickly changed our minds. If we return to Carmel, we would NOT choose the Best Western. I'm not sure if this was a factor, but we were not a primarily white group ~ and when we encountered the staff again, we noticed that the only person who was treated well was tall, white, and male.
The desk clerk needs to be educated on hospitality. As well as the staff, they must all be related, rude. We bothered them when we asked a few questions. We will find another hotel today.
This place was so great! The winner was SO KIND. She was lovely and knowledgeable and was amazing with kids. The location makes everything walkable taking out the need for constant parking and giving you a chance to take in cute and quaint Carmel. Pool was heated and kids loved it. Rooms were super clean and spacious. The people working here were really what set it apart.
My fiancé and I enjoyed our stay here for Valentines weekend. Couldn’t be in a better location as all of Downtown was within walking distance.
