Best Western Mountain Lodge at Banner Elk

I recently stayed at the Best Western Lodge in Banner Elk, NC, and it was a major disappointment. The motel did not look anything like the pictures online, which was misleading. Upon arrival, I immediately noticed how outdated and poorly maintained the property was. The carpet in the room was dirty, with visible stains and an overall dingy feel. The air ventilation was terrible—either not working properly or just circulating musty, stale air, making the room feel stuffy and uncomfortable. It was clear that cleanliness and maintenance were not a priority. For the price, I expected at least a clean and decent place to stay, but this fell far below that standard. I would not recommend this motel and definitely won’t be staying here again. On a positive note, the staff was very kind and the location was very good.

This hotel achieves my “3 C’s” for hotel stays: Cleanliness, Coziness, and Convenience! We have been coming here for almost four years for our trips to the local ski resorts. It’s less than five minutes down the road from Sugar Mountain! The many rooms we’ve stayed in have always been tidy with plenty amenities (super hot water in the shower which is a huge win!!). This stay, we checked in with Linda at the front desk and she is a sweetheart; she called to make sure everything was right with the room after we settled in which was a lovely personal touch to our stay. We will always be back here when we need a reliable and convenient stay for our winter ski trips!

Stephanie the receptionist is absolutely amazing!! My husband and I had gotten into a bad wreck totaling our Tahoe. She helped my daughter reserve a room before our arrival and got us two heating pads. She was so kind to my daughter and went above and beyond to help us. Stephanie, thank you so much for your smile, kindness and compassion to help us and going above and beyond! We will forever be grateful!

I wish we could give more stars for service. This team is the most caring and gracious group of individuals that I have ever met. My family was staying here during Hurricane Helene for my wedding and the staff went above and beyond to make sure we were safe and comfortable. They provided food, snacks, water, and even hot coffee! They worked very hard & always had an amazing attitude despite the conditions and stress we were all under. I am so thankful we were surrounded by an amazing group of people. I can't thank y'all enough for everything you have done for my family and the community! We can't wait to visit y'all again in the future.

Wonderful place to stay when visiting Banner Elk and enjoying the wide array of activities the town has to offer. The rooms are clean, the breakfast is delicious and in the summer the pool is a nice touch! The staff is absolutely the best and, if you need anything they will accommodate accordingly. Shannon M.
