Family Camping Activities for All Ages: Games, Hiking, and Campfire Fun
Explore family camping activities that bring all ages together, from outdoor games and scenic hikes to memorable campfire fun that creates lasting memories.
Big Arsenic Springs Campground, located in Questa, NM 87556, within the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument, offers a scenic and relatively new camping experience. Situated near the Wild Rivers Visitor Center, this campground falls under the Campgrounds & RV Parks category.
According to customer reviews, Big Arsenic Springs Campground is highly regarded for its beautiful views and peaceful atmosphere. The drive to the monument is described as scenic, with minimal traffic. The campground itself is noted for its relatively new facilities, as the monument was designated in 2013. This includes a new visitor center, campground loop road, and campground facilities.
The campground features small camping areas with a limited number of first-come-first-serve campsites. Amenities include trees, sun shelters, fire rings, and picnic tables. Additionally, there are walk/bike trails, including an easy, flat trail that leads to a spectacular overlook of the gorge.
Reviewers have praised the campground for its cleanliness, well-maintained restrooms, and overall beauty. The daily permit fee is reportedly affordable. However, it is noted that due to the limited number of campsites, the campground may fill up quickly, especially during peak seasons. There is a suggestion that additional campsites should be built to accommodate more visitors.

This is my favorite campground of all of the ones along the rio gorge. It's pretty big there's nice restrooms unbelievable views. I think the daily permit was only three dollars. I was there in very late September, and there were only 2 or 3 people camping. Unbelievably beautiful I highly recommend.
We spent a night at the Rio Grande Del Norte National Monument’s Big Arsenic Campground located near the Wild Rivers Visitor Center. It was a beautiful drive into the monument with no vehicles to speak of. The Monument was designated in 2013 so the Visitor Center, campground loop road, and campground facilities are all new: a rare find for sure! The 4-5 campgrounds are small with only a few first-come-first-serve campsites in each, but if you’re able to find an available one you’ll appreciate the trees, sun shelter and other accommodations (eg fire ring, picnic table, and walk/bike trails). There’s a nice/easy/flat trail that takes you from your campground to a fabulous overlook of the gorge. Spectacular! This is a super nice place but they’re going to have to build additional campsites.
Beautiful sites over looking the Rio Grande River and very nice trails all thru the area
