Welcome to Big Creek Campground, a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, located in Ashford, WA 98304, USA. This campground offers a serene camping experience in a peaceful and lush forest environment, conveniently situated near Mt. Rainier National Park.
According to recent visitor reviews, a standout feature of Big Creek Campground is its exceptional camp host, Annette. Guests have consistently praised her accommodating and super helpful nature. Notably, Annette goes above and beyond in maintaining the cleanliness of the vault toilets, ensuring they are well-stocked, tidied, and even spraying air freshener for a more pleasant experience. For those unfamiliar, vault toilets are permanent structures in areas without running water that store waste in a sealed underground tank, designed to minimize odors with vent pipes.
The campsites at Big Creek Campground vary in their characteristics. Campsite #16 is described as spacious, beautiful, and well-located near the toilet and water spigots, offering a balance of shade and sunlight. Another campsite, #7 (if remembered correctly by a reviewer), is situated right next to the creek and is noted for its pretty setting. However, some reviews mention that the camp spots can be on the small side and close together.
Big Creek Campground serves as a convenient alternative for those unable to secure a camping spot within Mt. Rainier National Park itself. Its close proximity allows for easy access to the park, even before the reserve timed entry requirement comes into effect. Essential services include potable water spigots available within the campground.
The overall environment is characterized by a peaceful and lush forest, providing a tranquil backdrop for camping. The exceptional service from the camp host, particularly Annette's dedication to maintaining clean vault toilets and her helpfulness in securing campsites, is a recurring highlight in guest feedback. While the campsites might be somewhat close together, the beauty of the surrounding forest and the quality of service make Big Creek Campground a recommended option for those looking to explore the Mt. Rainier area.

We spent two nights at Big Creek Campground, campsite #16. Our camp host, Annette, was fantastic. Besides being accommodating and super helpful, she added special touches to the maintenance of the toilets! Late in the afternoon, she would go around on her golf cart to check the vault toilets, ensure there was enough toilet paper, fold the edges of the toilet paper rolls, and spray air freshener to make the experience more pleasant. Thank you, Annette. As for the campsite #16 itself, we were very happy with our spot. It was spacious, beautiful, and neither too dark nor too exposed. Its location was also ideal, being near the toilet and water. We noticed that campsite #7, if I remember correctly, is right next to the creek. When we drove around the loop, it looked very pretty. Vault toilets*: Permanent structures in areas without running water that store waste in a sealed underground tank. Vent pipes keep the toilets fresh and odor-free by allowing air to flow out through the ceiling.
This was a last minute stop so if you can’t get a camp spot in Mt. Ranier, this campground is very close and you can easily get into Mt. Ranier before the reserve timed entry requirement. Camp spots are on the small side close together, but you’re in peaceful lush forest, and there is potable water spigots. Highlight of our visit was camp host Annette was awesomely helpful, she went above and beyond as she remembered us and followed up to help us secure a second night on short notice! I never thought it would be possible to come across a clean pit toilet!
Stayed here for two night in July. Great little campsite. Lots of bugs, carry bug spray. Toilets are pits mostly. Creek runs behind the campground and feels so relaxed to sit and chill! :)
Nice campground, small spots, and only 2 are actually on the river. The rest are just woodsy. I had cell service the entire time. The camp host was friendly and was always stocking the vault toilet bathrooms
This campground has it all: clean pit toilets, hiking inside the grounds, privacy, a few miles from Mt Rainier Park, water…. Even though the actual individual sites are small (I have a 8x6 tent that barely fit), I never saw my neighbors due to the amount of trees between each site! The camp host was around at least 3x a day. It was dead quiet by 10pm. No parties or loud people ever. I was here June 30- July 2
