Big Indian Recreation Area Introduce
For Nebraska families and outdoor enthusiasts in the Southeast region, **Big Indian Recreation Area** stands out as a genuine "summer hot spot" and a remarkable value for a relaxing getaway. Managed by the Lower Big Blue Natural Resources District (LBBNRD), this park near Wymore is renowned for its tranquil atmosphere, excellent fishing, and clean, well-maintained facilities. It was the very first NRD-managed recreation area in the state, opening in 1972, and continues its legacy as a welcoming space where many Nebraskans have enjoyed spending time with friends and finally **"just relaxing for once."**
Covering **233 acres** around a beautiful **77-acre lake**, Big Indian Recreation Area underwent a significant renovation and rehabilitation in 2010/2011. This major project dramatically enhanced the water quality, fishing habitat, and visitor amenities, introducing features like a new boat ramp, handicap-accessible restrooms, and an improved swimming cove. The result is a dedicated, quiet sanctuary that successfully combines outdoor recreation with conservation—a truly **great place to camp and fish** that reflects the quality of Nebraska’s NRD-managed lands.

It was a wonderful time. enjoyed spending time with friends and just relaxing for once
Great place to camp and fish. There is a swimming beach and playground for kids. They also have electrical hook ups
My wife and I drove to Big Indian with hopes of staying there in our travel trailer. But after checking out the restroom/tornado shelter and realizing that it was one of the most disgusting restrooms we have ever encounterd, we decided not!!! Also, how about fixing the water faucets at the dump site so a person could at least rinse out the hose after dumping. Very poorly maintained camping facilities. I would have given it zero stars, but had to give it at least one in order to post.
The wife and I fish here alot. We are both disabled and can't stand for very long. There's access with places for our chairs. Plus we catch a lot of crappie and blue gill. The only drawback is the trash that people leave all over. They have trash cans here. Please use them.
Outhouses was nasty, but it was relaxing and quiet place to get away from the city
