Probably one of the best campgrounds we've ever been to hands down. The owners are amazing and stop by and help you with anything that you need. They have a bath house with cold and hot showers, men and women's bathrooms and sinks. Every site has electric and water hookups. There are also extra sites that you can put an RV and have sewage as well. This is a hidden gem that nobody knows about. So quiet and peaceful and we will be buying a spot for next year. Can't wait to come back!!! 5 STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
The fact that this campsite is a bit rugged is what drew our family to it. We have happily camp there since the '80's. My mom raised all the grandkids camping at Big Ridge. And, not one of them would trade the memories or anything in the world. The staff and campers are wonderful. The spaces are spread out and peaceful. And, there is a great deal to do within short driving times, to provide plenty of adventures. We look forward to camping at Big Ridge every year.
Camped here for 4 nights and had an awesome time. Very quiet and off the beaten path which is exactly what I was looking for. A lot of people were there Saturday night but everyone was very respectful and didn't keep me up. The bathhouse is rustic in appearance but was kept very clean and everything functioned perfectly including the hot water shower. I went to WV to ride my motorcycle and Big Ridge is surrounded by some of the most twisty and fun dirt and paved mountain roads I've ever ridden. Epic views everywhere you go around there and only about 1 hour from Seneca socks, dolly sods, smoke hole, spruce knob, ect. The owner Leroy and his wife, who's name I can't recall, were very welcoming. Leroy gave me a Jumpstart at 1030 at night one night and also some road maps to help me while I ride since cell signal is not very good in the area, can't thank him enough. I will definitely be back to Big Ridge again.
If you want to get away, this is a good bet. If you want to go somewhere dark. This is a pretty good place to go. At night you can't see your hand in front of your face. I didn't meet the staff. Just put my dues in the money box by the bathhouse. The campsites themselves were on the rough side. Felt similar to tent sites you see on the AT. In my opinion this is a good thing. The campground is built on the side of a hill, so you aren't gonna find a perfectly level campsite.
I am giving this place 4 stars because of the previous reviews and because I want to be more than fair. Without these considerations I would have given it 3 stars, maybe 2.5. Most of the sites are close to each other and don’t have privacy. Tent-pitching areas and fire pits are not well maintained. A high-voltage power line passes over some tent sites. I came for quite but people near me were loud. Men’s bathroom has two toilet seats but there’s nothing separating them! Then there’s the $25 per night price tag for a tent site! Definitely way overpriced.
