My stay at the Big Rock Candy Mountain Resort was awesome! The cabin I rented was small, but very clean and well maintained. The heating/cooling in the room worked great and the shower had plenty of hot water. I went specifically to ride my e-bike on their paved bicycle trail, and it didn't disappoint. 7 miles of beautiful mountain scenery and the fall weather made my ride even more breathtaking! If I had only 1 small complaint, their restaurant was closed for the season and it's about a 20 min ride to town for a meal. Other than that, fantastic stay!!
I go to Big Rock every year. It has been a staple in my family's get aways for generations. This isn't some bougie, Michelin star resort, so if you expect diamonds and high class, don't bother. This place gets you away from technology, away from appliances, away from the fast place world and puts you into a relaxing, nature filled environment that allows you to soak in the sun and forget about your inner city life. I will always bring my family here and value the atmosphere and quality they bring to our lives! With that being said, water rafting here is AMAZING! The lazy river is great for a long, relaxing bask in the sun. You can also rent ATVs which has been my absolute favorite thing to do these last few years!!
We stayed in the campground, campground is clean and great for trailers, wifi is spotty but we did t mind as it helped us disconnect for the weekend. I would suggest to the staff maybe someone to regulate as other campers kids were doing what ever they wanted riding at vs on the lawn and just all over everyone campsite. Also it's and atvs shouldn't be ridden around the small campground continuously as there are plenty of trails that connect to campground. Other then those few things we enjoyed our stay and will come back.
We stayed in the motel. The surrounding mountains are absolutely beautiful. The property has a lot going for it. The rooms were clean. The motel room has a mini kitchen area. Ours had things like a microwave, mini fridge, and paper towel holder but there were no paper towels provided. We had 2 beds in our room, and one had a box spring that fell off of the frame constantly (our friends had the same issue in another room). Ceiling light fixtures full of dead bugs, etc. We asked about their laundry facility - its $10 for access. The restaurant didn't have anything vegetarian on the menu, but when I asked, they had an Impossible Burger option, which I appreciate.
My wife and I booked a stay at Big Rock Candy Mountain for the main reason of staying in a train car. Our younger kids were so excited when we pulled up to the train car to unload our gear. There was plenty of room for sleeping our family of six. We took rides on the bike path that is right by Caboose Village. Floated the river a couple of times and found the restaurant and convenience store very helpful. The train car had a small kitchen that we used for breakfast and dinners. We also rented a side by side and took a day to ride part of the Paiute trail. We took a ride on the little train around the site. The staff and other vacationers were very nice. We did not plan on the amazing stargazing, that was a added bonus. We are planning a trip next year and will do much of the same stuff. Overall we had a great time.
