Big Sandy West Campground is nestled in the beautiful landscape of southern Wyoming, offering campers a unique opportunity to experience nature up close. Located near Big Sandy Lake and managed by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM), this campground provides a serene setting for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a peaceful retreat. The area is known for its stunning views of the Rocky Mountains and diverse wildlife, making it a popular destination for camping, fishing, boating, and hiking.
The campground also provides opportunities for primitive camping for those seeking a more secluded experience away from the developed sites. With ample space to explore and enjoy nature, Big Sandy West Campground caters to both families and solo adventurers looking for an outdoor adventure.
While some visitors have had positive experiences praising the campground's natural beauty and amenities, others have faced challenges with site conditions and facility maintenance. It is advisable for campers to check current conditions and any recent updates before planning their visit. Big Sandy West Campground remains a popular choice for those seeking an outdoor adventure in Wyoming, despite occasional challenges.
Lower campsite is flooded. Faucets are inoperable and this valve was open. (Flushing well after contamination?) There is an unstable edge along the lake resulting from flood erosion. Several collapses occured while we were overnighting. We camped inside of the road to avoid these areas. This site needs remediation after flood waters recede. Areas near the unstable edge outside of the road should have the usual USFS warning signs posted to protect people from themselves. Will report to USFS
Open Space with awesome views of the Rockies and Wildlife. 14 day free camping
Great prairie campground. Not for the faint-hearted. As it is a wild place. It is tough to find an even spot for tents. Not much of any trees.. One small pavilion for shade do not plan on sitting under it from June through July as the cliff swallow have apprx 50 nests in it. So you will get splattered🙃 nice beach Areas. Not a lot of people, lots of space. Nice restrooms, and trash cans.
Great views, site has NEW vault bathrooms. No water only boondock. Good location to collect petrified wood, some Palm wood also. Plenty of 🦌 deer. About 30 head of wild horses came through the camp ground. Will come here again 🤠 + Free camping
It's free, has bathrooms, has picnic benches, has cattle wandering through camp sites, lake, and it's free. Beautiful high desert view of the stars on clear nights. Clearly saw the comet that is passing earth, just below the big dipper in the sky.
