Big Springs Group Area - Island Park Introduce

Welcome to Big Springs Group Area - Island Park, a unique offering within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, located at S Big Springs Loop Rd, Island Park, ID 83433. For inquiries, please call (208) 558-7658 or +1 208-558-7658.

Nestled in a well-situated location next to the picturesque Big Springs, one of the primary sources of the Snake River, this campground offers a natural and potentially secluded environment. It is described by visitors as a "hidden gem" and a "primitive campground," suggesting a more rustic camping experience. Notably, hiking trails conveniently start right at the campground, providing immediate access to the surrounding wilderness.

One of the standout features of Big Springs Group Area is its proximity to exceptional wildlife viewing opportunities. According to a visitor, it's possible to see moose families and other wildlife directly at the spring, enhancing the connection with nature. The campground is also within walking distance of this significant natural landmark.

While generally well-maintained, some considerations have been noted by previous visitors. Maneuvering larger RVs, specifically a 36' Class A, might be a bit tight within the campground. Additionally, visitors have reported an "extremely buggy" environment, suggesting that insect repellent is highly recommended, especially during certain times of the year.

The facilities at Big Springs Group Area include vault toilets, which have been positively noted for being odor-free. However, recent feedback indicates potential temporary issues such as the lack of alcohol sanitizer in the bathroom and a water main situation requiring campers to obtain water from a large container, with a suggestion to use it for cooking rather than drinking. Despite these minor inconveniences, the campground host, Ellis, is mentioned as being very kind.

Big Springs Group Area operates on a first-come, first-serve basis, adding to its spontaneous and adventurous appeal. If you are seeking a primitive camping experience close to natural wonders, wildlife, and hiking trails near the source of the Snake River, Big Springs Group Area - Island Park offers a unique opportunity. Be prepared for potential insects and inquire about the current status of water facilities when planning your visit.

A bit tight getting a 36' Class A in , but manageable. Be aware - EXTREMELY buggy!!! Probably the most bugs we have experienced arround these area campgrounds. Otherwise well situated next to Big Springs . Trails start at CG.

A hidden gem - first come first serve primitive campground within walking distance of a huge spring that is one of the source waters of the Snake River. I saw a moose family and other wildlife at the spring. My campground host Ellis was very kind and the facilities were maintained nicely. I don't know what they're using in the vault toilets these days but there is no odor. My only negative was the lack of alcohol sanitizer in the bathroom and the water main must be busted so you had to get your water out of a big container. I would suggest not drinking it but using it for cooking.

Beautiful and clean campground with clean restrooms and running water. Paved trails to Johnny Sack Cabin and boardwalk next to the pristine spring river. Very happy with our camping experience.

This is the perfect summer activity for a family. This is a very gentle and slow moving float. There are no rapids at all. If you are floating this in a raft or an innertube plan on floating for about four hours or five hours. You may often need to get off and push your raft over the shallow areas. If you are on a stand up paddleboard or a kayak it should take you about two hours. It has become very popular and very busy and parking at the top of the boat launch is getting more difficult. Wear lots of sunscreen and bring some snacks.

On a backcountry road just east of Island Park. Come here to feed rainbow trout congregating at notch of the springs. Bring bread or contribute to upkeep by using vending machines.
