Beautiful spot. Saw amazing sun sets every night. The lake is lovely. The kids had so much fun exploring. There is a nesting pair of bald eagles and beavers. The hosts were amazing, so helpful, friendly and kind. This was our kids' first camping experience in a tent. It was just perfect!
Best National Park we have been to. Made this our home base as we explored the surrounding areas. We stayed on the primitive side. The campsites were all level. Pit toilets were clean and well ventilated. We will absolutely return ❣️
Camp hosts were super nice! Bathrooms were immaculate and it was helpful that firewood was sold at the campgrounds. Beautiful views of the lake and convenient location in Custer state park! Dog friendly campground.
Drove in after leaving Deadwood, doing Needles Hwy and the wildlife’s loop in Custer State Park. #3 was the only site available and let’s just say we scored!! If your tent camping this is a perfect site, you will have to carry everything down the hill but you will have no sight lines to neighbors. We have an RTT so had to go up hill to bed but it was totally worth it!! A small RV would fit as well.
Very nice campground with large, shaded, well kept spaces, level sites, fire pits, picnic table, vault toilets and water available for drinking. Don't allow rv fill of water and no dump available. The hosts Jan and Paul were super friendly, helpful and probably the most on top of it hosts we've encountered in our 2 years on the road! Bismark Lake has a pretty trail by the water and a ramp for small craft only. Five fcfs sites.
This place is why we all need to support Federal funding for recreation sites. Beautiful campground, spacious sites, just $10 night (I would support doubling this if spent on trash cans (there are none) and other support). Only about 8 or 10 sites are open though most of the year as the other part of the campground is closed until memorial through Labor Day. This is a shame because it's a beautiful place. No reservations so you have to take your chances but there's a lot of camping in the area. There is one thing that I don't think is appropriate though. The Bob Marshall fishing organization and camp has built a plastic dock on the lake. With a federal permit which is great. But even when and not in use, they have a sign that says that the public cannot go on to that dock. Even though it is Federal land. The federal government should not allow that. If you want to have a dock on the people's land, great but you should not deny access to the public. The Bob Marshall organization should consider changing that sign to be a good Steward of public land.
