Black Lake Campground Introduce
Welcome to Black Lake Campground, located in Council, Idaho (83612). For our local users in Taiwan with friends and family planning a visit to Idaho, or those considering a trip themselves, Black Lake Campground falls under the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, offering a camping experience in a beautiful, albeit somewhat remote, setting.
Based on customer reviews, Black Lake Campground is situated in a "beautiful area." It is noted as being a "small campground," but fortunately, there are also some primitive camping spots available around the lake, offering more options for visitors. However, it is crucial to be aware that the last 6 miles of the access road to the campground are described as "pretty rugged," and a "high clearance vehicle is recommended" to navigate it safely.
Environment: Black Lake Campground is located in a scenic area with a lake, providing a natural backdrop for camping. The presence of primitive camping spots around the lake suggests opportunities for a more secluded and nature-focused experience. However, one reviewer described the access road as a "long dusty access road" that is "too rocky," which could impact the overall enjoyment of reaching the campground. While the area is described as beautiful, potential visitors should be prepared for the challenging terrain of the access road.
Services & Features: Information regarding specific services and features at Black Lake Campground is limited and somewhat contradictory based on the provided reviews. One reviewer mentioned "no TP in the outhouse," suggesting that basic restroom facilities may be available but not consistently maintained. Another reviewer noted that there was "nobody around to talk to," implying a lack of on-site staff or assistance. Therefore, visitors should likely expect minimal services and should be prepared for a self-sufficient camping experience. The availability of primitive camping spots indicates that these areas would have even fewer, if any, amenities.
Promotional Information: For local users in Taiwan looking to recommend a camping destination in Idaho, Black Lake Campground offers a beautiful natural setting with lake access and primitive camping opportunities. However, it is essential to strongly advise potential visitors about the "pretty rugged" and "too rocky" last 6 miles of the access road, emphasizing the recommendation of a high clearance vehicle. The limited and potentially unreliable amenities, such as the outhouse, and the possible lack of on-site staff, suggest that this campground is best suited for experienced campers who are well-prepared for a more primitive and self-reliant outdoor adventure. While the area is beautiful, the challenging access and minimal services mean that Black Lake Campground may not be suitable for all types of campers. It is crucial for anyone considering a visit to be aware of these conditions to manage their expectations and ensure a safe and comfortable trip.

Beautiful area. It's a small campground, but luckily there are some primitive camping spots around the lake as well. BTW, the last 6 miles of the access road is pretty rugged, high clearance vehicle is recommended..
Long dusty access road is too rocky and should be smoothed out. No TP in the outhouse. Nobody around to talk to. The hike up to Purgatory Saddle was straight up and the birds make fun of you if you have to stop and rest. Trees and thunderstorm clouds blocked any good views and the hailstones hurt! Too many rocks in general. Don't expect much, a real dud.
Great get away! But LONG dirty and small road in... go in at your own risks if you aren’t used to driving on edge of road or 1 lane gravel roads I don’t recommend. And if you don’t like dirt don’t even think about it. The dust is 6 inches deep everywhere. It took me a week to clean up everything from our trip
Bring an electric outboard and strap onto a makeshift raft. Great fishing! Been coming here since 1954 as a kid with a 2.5HP Hiawatha outboard - still have it. Camping can be tight but road keeps flatlanders away. Don't forget to go over Pugatory to the other lakes and Granite Creek with a fly rod. Stop by Smith Mtn lookout for a great view on the way in or out. Continue over to Jackley Mtn and upper Rapid River drainage - another fly rod area!
The campground is nice, just too many people.
