Black River Camping Ventures Introduce

Black River Camping Ventures, situated in Ivanhoe, North Carolina, offers a unique and authentic camping experience for those looking to reconnect with nature. As a premier destination within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it provides a blend of rugged wilderness camping with essential services to ensure a comfortable stay. This establishment is particularly appealing to local users seeking a tranquil escape and direct access to the renowned Black River.

Environment: A Pristine Wilderness Retreat

The campground is nestled within approximately 180 acres of pristine wilderness, where the tea-colored waters of the Black River gracefully meander through the landscape. This unique coloration of the river is a natural phenomenon, resulting from the tannins released by the ancient cypress trees lining its banks. These bald cypress trees are a significant feature of the area, with some believed to be among the oldest living trees east of the Rocky Mountains, adding a remarkable ecological and historical dimension to the environment.

The terrain at Black River Camping Ventures is generally flat, providing ease of access and setup for campers. The property is characterized by a dense forest of loblolly pines and large oak trees, offering abundant shade, which is particularly welcome during warmer months. In the fall, the foliage transforms into a beautiful display of colors, creating a picturesque setting. The natural quietness and secluded feel of the campground allow visitors to truly immerse themselves in the sounds of nature, from wild turkeys to owls and various bird calls.

One of the most notable environmental aspects is the direct riverfront access. The campground is the only one of its kind directly on the Black River, granting campers unparalleled views and immediate opportunities for water activities. A common area features a sandy beach, a kayak launch, and swings overlooking the river, providing a perfect spot for relaxation and observation. Across the river from the launch, visitors can observe Iron Mine Cove, an area known for its glistening iron deposits that appear to drip from the high bank under sunlight.

Services & Amenities: Rustic Comfort in Nature

While Black River Camping Ventures emphasizes a primitive camping experience, it thoughtfully provides key amenities to enhance comfort and convenience for its guests. The campground offers various site types to accommodate different preferences, including tent trailer sites with 15 amps of electricity and water hookups, as well as more primitive tent sites. Each campsite is generally equipped with a picnic table and a fire ring, ideal for outdoor cooking and gathering around a campfire.

For sanitation, the campground provides regularly maintained washrooms and showers, though it's noted that primitive sites may rely on porta-potties and non-potable water hand pumps for washing up. Charcoal grills are also available for shared use, offering an alternative for meal preparation. The presence of trash cans at each site helps maintain the cleanliness and natural beauty of the area.

Beyond the immediate campsite features, Black River Camping Ventures also includes a convenience store on premises. This is a practical addition for campers who might forget essentials like a toothbrush or need to stock up on basic supplies. Security is also a consideration, with controlled access points ensuring a safe environment for all visitors. The campground is proudly pet-friendly, allowing furry family members to join in on the outdoor adventures.

For those interested in exploring the surroundings, well-marked walking trails with colored blazes wind throughout the property, encouraging reconnecting with nature. The hosts, Lisa and Eric, are frequently praised in reviews for their exceptional hospitality, attentiveness, and responsiveness, contributing significantly to a positive camping experience.

Features: River Adventures and Tranquil Escapes

The defining feature of Black River Camping Ventures is its unparalleled access to the Black River. This makes it an ideal spot for a variety of water-based activities. Kayaking and canoeing are highly recommended, with direct launch access from the campground. The slow-moving river is perfect for leisurely paddles, allowing kayakers to explore winding paths around huge cypress trees. The river’s tea-colored water and sandy bottom also make it an excellent spot for swimming, particularly in the shallow areas and around the expansive sandbar.

Fishing is another popular activity, with the river known for its good fishing opportunities. Campers can cast a line directly from the banks or from their kayaks. The serene environment also makes it perfect for paddleboarding. For those who prefer land-based activities, the walking trails offer opportunities for peaceful strolls and wildlife observation.

The campground also offers a unique geographical feature: it is located at a point where Pender County meets Bladen and Sampson counties, adding an interesting local touch to the experience. This "little piece of heaven," as described by some visitors, is designed for relaxation and enjoyment of the natural surroundings. The communal areas, including the sandy beach and swings, foster a sense of community while still providing ample space for individual tranquility.

Our yearly camping trip with some great guys🤙😁! Ended up at this GREAT camp ground. Out of the 3 years we've all camped together. I believe this was one of the best times. For fishing is was a blast🎣! Did some cat fishing at night, and we could barely keep up with the poles being hit by some big ones. Had camp sites 1 and 2, which worked out perfect for 7 tents. Ms. Lisa was very nice and made sure we were enjoying our time during our stay⛺️. We look forward to returning again and maybe for a longer time. Like they say, time flys when you're having a blast! 😎🏕

I don’t usually camp with my family, but they go all the time. I went this time and this “girly-girl” was VERY impressed! Whether you’re an avid camper or not, this place is beautiful, peaceful and so well kept. The area is clean - even in the fishing spots. No hooks, line and fishing mess anywhere. I didn’t spot a single piece of trash. The port a potty was clean and smelled pleasant. We caught a couple types of bass. A lot of fun! We will be back for sure. Tip: Buy wood with cash there! It’s cheaper than what I paid at Walmart.

This place really is awesome. I agree with the comment about the Porta John's being really clean and nice! Great spot with large sites, great views, great fishing, and you can put in kayaks right at the site. I recommend if in the area...use two cars and park one down at Newbys landing. So you can kayak downstream through the swamp.

Well-kept, peaceful campground with beautiful sites all along the wonderful Black River. Each site has a picnic table. Owners friendly and helpful. Clean port-a-potties; no potable water but pumps provide water for cleaning. Nearby town for stores and gas. Perfect for any paddler! We came to explore the world-famous 3 Sisters Swamp and marvel at the immense Bald Cyprus trees all along the shore.
