Very beautiful swimming spot! The water was very clear and clean. The rope swings are top notch. Way better than any other swimming hole I’ve been to. One end has water that is ~2 feet deep and gradually reaches 10+ feet on the other end. The water was cold, but not as cold as some other places like Barton Springs. This is mostly because not much sun reaches the water.
Great spot to beat the heat and enjoy a chilly float in the river. The canopy of trees allow an ample amount of shade over the water, keeping it nice and cool. The kids love the chain swings. I appreciate limited tickets sold daily to keep the crowds down. Nice grassy area for picnic blankets and chairs. No need to rent an umbrella or picnic table, in my opinion.
After 15 years in Austin I finally made it to Blue Hole and I don’t know what took me so long! It is the most manicured, cared for, and well-operated natural body of water in Central Texas. The lawn is flat and shaded, appointment-only prevents overcrowding, and the water is COOL. They allow picnicking tho they will let you know when your picnic time is up so go prepared to get out of their when your allotted time is over. I was also surprised to find that it’s basically in downtown Wimberly. Very neat! Can’t wait to go back!
My family visited Blue Hole for the first time, and we loved it! It's such a beautiful spot! The water is the perfect temperature where it's refreshing and not too cold. It's also perfect that there's a good size area where the water isn't too deep and you can stand up. Then, further down where the rope swings are, the water is deeper. It's really great for the whole family!
As per the recommendation from Katherine at Jacob’s Well Natural Area, l stopped in at the Blue Hole Regional Park for a swim. What an awesome experience! It wasn’t to crowded, and the weather was just perfect to be in the water. Since I arrived a couple of hours before closing time, l made use of my time by not floating in the water. But swing from a rope (metal chain & ring) from the trees. I am a mature man reliving his youth of summer. I highly recommend this place for a day adventure! One has to book a reservation online before, l would read their website before you go. You will NOT be disappointed.
Beautiful place with an incredible swimming spot. There are also good hiking trails to follow. They're easy trails. 3 parking areas available around the park. You can only swim from May–end Sep. They close the natural pool from Oct to April because it's fish breeding season. There are changing rooms in the toilets closest to the pond, but I didn't see any lockers there. You need to make a reservation to swim. $12 for all non-locals.
My family camped out this last weekend at the Creekside Campout at Blue Hole and we had a wonderful time. We have a four year old and five year old so this easy and closely located campout is a great introduction for them. They loved the night hike and stargazing as well as the little lesson about pelts and skulls. In the morning, we were pleasantly surprised by pastries and hot coffee, which was much needed after the cold 40 degree night! I’d highly recommend this experience for young families!
