Crucially, this is a highly accessible campground—approximately an hour's drive from Billings—yet it feels a world away, offering the solitude and spectacular dark skies that define the Montana experience. While it is important to note that the site is rustic and operates with minimal enforcement (as noted by some feedback regarding uncontrolled pet and ATV use), the quality of the natural setting—the clean air, the soothing sound of the breeze, the level parking for ease of setup, and the dog-friendly policy—vastly outweighs the simplicity of the amenities for the seasoned Montanan camper. If you are prepared to pack in your own water and handle a first-come, first-served system, Bluebird Campground offers a peaceful, scenic, and budget-friendly layover or weekend destination in the heart of Big Sky Country.

Customer Reviews
Two or three little campground loops on the reservoir, some with shade, nice, quiet, good breeze to keep away bugs. Good layover spot. Picnic tables. Level parking. Great place for the dog to swim and run.
I camped here on July 19, 2019. All of the campsites near the water were taken, but It wouldn't have made any difference. There were dogs running loose in the campground. Children riding ATVs round and round and round thru the campground all day long. One of the ATVs sounded like a jet engine. No parents ever in sight. I never saw a camp host and a park employee never, ever made rounds. I would not camp here again.
Camped here one night on the way to miles city. We went memorial day weekend and we're pleasantly surprised to find a nice campsite on the lake. There were still sites available when we left on Saturday morning. I would assume that on a typical weekend it wouldn't be busy at all, which is my favorite part. The water was clear considering how flooded it was. I wish I would have brought my float. My kids played in the water, and weren't shivering! There is a boat ramp and day use area there as well. There's no shade or trees. Maybe on the loop there are trees but we camped at site#1. Bring your own firewood and some sunscreen.
Nice little place, but we were only there for about 12 hours anyway. Just a place along the way. Lots of mosquitoes.
Because this open reservoir lies in a wind swept prairie area, sudden storms do pose a hazard to anglers, swimmers, and boaters, so be watchful. Deadmans Basin Reservoir is a designated fishing access site. It is a 1,900-acre Musselshell River bottom reservoir that reaches a depth of 64 feet at its deepest point. This is a rather bleak spot, but excellent for rainbow and big browns. Follow K15 Adventures on Instagram and Facebook. Typically, remote destinations where the journey of Fishing, Kayak Fishing, Hunting, Camping is the principal goal with, some shenanigans thrown in.
