Boulder Campground Introduce

Boulder Campground, located in East Kootenay G, BC V0A 1L0, Canada, serves as a basecamp for visitors to the renowned Bugaboo Provincial Park. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it provides a camping option in a mountainous environment. While perhaps not the most ideal location for serious climbers focused on peak ascents due to its distance from the main climbing areas, it offers a convenient stay for those generally exploring the Bugaboos.

The campground is situated approximately a 10-minute walk up and down to and from the Kain Hut, a key access point for many Bugaboo adventures. Its location is just below the treeline, offering a degree of shelter from the wind due to the presence of trees. However, this lower elevation and tree cover also mean that campers may experience a higher concentration of mosquitoes compared to the Applebee Campground, which is located at a higher elevation.

One advantage of Boulder Campground's lower elevation is that it tends to be warmer than Applebee Campground. Essential amenities are provided, including a pit toilet with toilet paper available, similar to the facilities at Applebee. For food storage and safety from wildlife, particularly bears and other critters, the campground is equipped with bear-proof storage boxes where campers can securely store their provisions. Additionally, a pole with hooks is available for hanging backpacks off the ground, helping to keep gear organized and safe.

Overall, Boulder Campground is described as a "great place to camp" for those visiting the Bugaboo region. Its sheltered location, proximity to the Kain Hut, and provision of essential amenities like a toilet and bear-proof storage make it a practical choice for many. However, for climbers specifically aiming to be as close as possible to the peaks for early starts and easier access, staying at the higher-elevation Applebee Campground is recommended instead.

There is no specific promotional information available for Boulder Campground in the provided review. Local users planning a visit to the Bugaboos for hiking or general exploration may find Boulder Campground a suitable option, keeping in mind its location relative to climbing areas and the potential for mosquitoes due to its treeline setting.

It's a good place to stay when visiting the Bugaboos but definitely not the best if you're up there to climb, since it's further from all the peaks. It's about a 10 minute walk up and down to/from the Kain hut. This camp is located just below treeline, among some trees so it's a bit more sheltered from wind (not by too much though), but that also means you get more mosquitoes than at Applebee higher up. It's also warmer than Applebee due to the lower elevation. There is a pit toilet with toilet paper (same as Applebee) and some critter/bear proof boxes to store your food safely. You'll also find a pole with hooks to hang backpacks off the ground. Overall great place to camp, but if you're planning to climb stay at Applebee instead
