An interesting place. But one of the few spots where there's any history or attraction in the Kings canyon national Park. Not sure it's worth the $18 entry fee unless you feel like you just want to donate to the park - which we were fine with doing.
The drive alone is scenic and beautiful. Once you arrive you can see the majestic and powerful running river along the Cavern area. It's nestled just in between 2 cliffs on each side. The gift shop is where you can purchase the ticket to go into the guided tour of the Cavern. Gift shop employees were really nice. Once the tour starts you have a small hike up the side of the cliff to the entrance. The climb/hike is about 5 mins of uphill so be ready. Once you arrive at the entrance you are greater by the tour guide. Our guide was Devon. Super cool dude with a great attitude. Once you go in it's ruffle about 35 to 45 minutes of site seeing and hearing about how "Boyden" was lost in the pitch black of the Cavern for 2 days. At the end you are given the choice to either walk back out the way you came in or go through ankle deep stream within the Cavern to an exit(I chose the stream). Had a blast, will definitely go again with my kids next time.
The history and tour is well worth the money. The gift shop is also the best we saw while in the area. You can walk through the lower cavern on the way out which has about a foot of water so make sure you bring shoes that can get wet.
Loved it. Reserve in advance if you can, tours fill up. Our docent was amazing, the folks at the gift shop were friendly and chill. The worst part is the steep 1/8 mile hike to the cave entrance, but the views are spectacular
Must see place. The guy takes you inside the cave and shows you all the calcite deposits. It’s about an hour trip. You could walk on the river bed inside the cave. It’s fun. Everyone must experience this.
