Primitive camping next to the Illinois river. Nice foot bridge easily assessable. Vaulted toilet. Picnic table in main camp area. Beautiful river views. Be prepared to walk a short trail to reach the water.
The drive to the camp sight is rough. If you’re afraid of heights or if you do not have an off reading vehicle, consider another campsite. Very beautiful views once you get there, secluded.
Basic campground on the Illinois river, found some really interesting rock material when I was here last
Don’t waste your time. Rough, forgotten, and ugly. The river is not even close.
Horrible road its more of an extreme ATV offroad, you will lose your gear getting down it to the campsite, never seen so many rattlesnakes in my life while out hiking, in the campsite and about, the whole area had a big forest fire, thousands of standing dead burnt trees everywhere, but some new ones are growing up around them, was 109 degrees when we went so be prepared. We had a bear come in our camp unlatch our trailer door, and tear up everything and drag some items into the brush. Saw 3 bears on the way out in the road and 10 more huge green looking rattlesnakes. Not a safe place to go unless you like that type of life and come prepared.
I wish I had listened to the other reviews. Truck bottomed out getting up there. No cell service so we had to have one of our compadres hike down miles to get service, he nearly got bitten by a rattlesnake on the way. I love rugged camping but there are about a thousand other campgrounds I would choose before this one.
Beautiful area but way too steep and rugged trails that are not maintained well. Hope you like snakes, saw 6 timber rattlers the first day
