We love this campground outside of Kirwin, Wyoming and Meeteetse, Wyoming. Of the two up near Kirwin, we like Brown Mountain the best. It offers more space, outhouses, fire rings, and the beautiful Wood River right by the campground. It's a very peaceful place in the mountains. 7 miles up the road is the old gold mining ghost town of Kirwin to explore. You can take an ATV or a vehicle up the dirt road to check it out.
CAMPGROUND CLOSED DUE TO LACK OF FUNDS! Only marking one star because of the incompetence of the forest service. This campground is 3 miles beyond the Wood River campground and is about 25 miles from the town of Meeteetse, WY. The forest service could post a note on either Google or on somewhere on the main highway that suggests that the campground is closed. But they haven't. So we drove all the way there for nothing. The wood river campground is open but when I drove by, all sites were occupied by humongous RVs. How about reserving at least half the sites for tent people? Very disappointed.
Lovely scenery, great trout fishing and few other people.
All we did was park our vehicles there and unload the UTV's.
Very neat place to look at history.
