Brownie Watercraft Campsite Introduce

šŸ›¶ **Introduction / Overview**

For Minnesotans who embrace the spirit of adventure and the raw beauty of the wilderness, **Brownie Watercraft Campsite** offers a true taste of primitive paddle camping along one of the state's most iconic waterways. Located in the sparsely populated **Fern Township** area, this site is specifically designated for those traveling the **State Water Trail**, offering a necessary overnight stop for canoeists and kayakers exploring the upper reaches of the **Mississippi River Water Trail** near its Headwaters region. This is not a drive-up campground with manicured lawns and full hookups; rather, it is a simple, rustic spot—a grassy clearing along the riverbank—that embodies the authentic Minnesota wilderness experience.

Brownie Watercraft Campsite is ideal for experienced campers seeking **seclusion and tranquility**. It caters to those who are self-sufficient and prioritize the peace that comes from being removed from motorized traffic and large crowds. Guests frequently commend the **large, mowed space for tents**, making it comfortable for multiple parties or large tents, and the site's proximity to the water's edge. It is a genuine step back into nature, offering incredible views of the night sky and the river's changing moods, and stands as a testament to Minnesota's commitment to maintaining its vital water trail system.

šŸ“ **Location and Accessibility**

The Brownie Watercraft Campsite is situated in **Fern Township, MN 56678, USA**, positioning it in the remote northern region of Minnesota, often associated with the wilderness leading to the Mississippi River Headwaters. It is managed as part of the system of primitive campsites maintained by the state for the benefit of paddlers on the State Water Trail.

Crucially, accessibility is defined by its designation as a **"Watercraft Campsite."** While some sources suggest some access to this class of site by road, its primary and most encouraged access is by **canoe or kayak from the river**. For those paddling downstream from the Headwaters area, it provides a welcome break. Visitors should note a common navigational challenge: the **Google Maps location may be slightly inaccurate**, with the actual site often noted to be approximately **1/4 mile further upstream** from the listed pin. Campers look for a clear **campsite marker at the riverbank** and a short trail that leads to the clearing. This emphasis on river access ensures the site remains peaceful and primarily utilized by paddlers.

The location listed in google maps is slightly off from the actual location of the site, which is approximately 1/4 mile further upstream. There is a campsite marker at the bank and a short trail leads up to a fairly large grass clearing. Lots of space for tents, mowed occasionally, and lots of ticks.
