Location and Accessibility

Buckatabon Lodge is beautifully situated at 5630 Rush Rd, Conover, WI 54519, USA. This address places it firmly in the heart of Wisconsin's renowned Northwoods region, specifically in Vilas County. The Conover area is celebrated for its pristine lakes, extensive forests, and abundant wildlife, offering that quintessential northern Wisconsin experience that so many of us cherish.

Accessibility to Buckatabon Lodge is generally quite straightforward for those traveling from across Wisconsin. Conover is served by state highways, making it reasonably easy to reach from major population centers. While it offers a secluded, "get-away-from-it-all" feel, it's not so remote as to be difficult to access. Typically, visitors would travel north on major routes like US-51, then transition onto state highways or well-maintained county roads to reach Rush Road. The relative ease of navigation is a significant benefit, especially for families embarking on a vacation with children or for those towing RVs.

The lodge's location on Lake Buckatabon provides direct lake access, which is a massive draw for water enthusiasts. This allows for immediate opportunities for fishing, boating, and swimming right from the property. For locals, this means less travel time and more vacation time, as a premier Northwoods destination is within comfortable driving distance. The natural setting ensures a peaceful retreat, yet its proximity to other Northwoods towns means visitors can easily venture out for supplies, dining, or additional recreational activities, striking a perfect balance between seclusion and convenience.

We just ended our week long family vacation with a total of 16 people here and it was absolutely amazing. We stayed in the three cabins that are on the swim pond, a lakefront cabin and a RV site right next to the swim pond cabins. All of the cabins were very clean, had all of the essentials and were perfect for families with or without small children! The inflatables in the swimming pond provided our kids with endless enjoyment during our stay as well as the jumping pillow, huge playground and the arcade! We enjoyed daily visits to the store to get ice cream after dinner and a couple of trips for meals to the lighthouse pub at the campground. All of the staff we encountered were extremely friendly and very helpful! The grounds were well taken care of and very clean. The pride of ownership shows here. We will definitely be back again! I can’t recommend this place more !!!!

I have lots of information to add to this post so it's going to be a work in progress for the time being. So let's start off with the PROs. The new owners Dustin and his wife have put a ton of new money into the campground with new improvements the past 2 summers (new docks, updated the kitchen in the bar area for patrons to order food, new blacktop driveway, a new bouncy pad for the kids and a child swing set area, renovated the bathroom areas, added washers, and dryers for campers to use, renovated the main house to be used as cabin rental as well as renovating the large cabin) to name just a few things that have changed. They also have plans for big changes and new improvements in the near future, which have been a long time coming. However, these changes have brought anxiety to the campground and neighbors nearby. In an effort to update the campground campers will be required to update their trailers to a newer model, that is no more than 10 years old. As we all know new changes can be both good and bad. It's great that new owners want to bring in a fresh new look and have the money and the drive to do so. The CONs I don't believe adding in 103 new camper sites is a good idea. The increase in people will have an effect on the current culture as well as affect the neighbors on Rush Road and Katie Lane with the increase in traffic. The other great concern with adding 103 permanent trailer sites is the over all affected on fishing which could totally alter the ecosystem of the lake. The communication seemed to be a bit of an issue as well, however that could be a result of the short staff. While the owners were around the easiest place to ask question or bring up issues was in the lodge and often time they were unable to help. Finally, the cabins were not very clean. There was bunch of trash under all of the beds and the kitchen appeared somewhat disorganized. Also, remember to bring you own hand towels and wash clothes because non are provided. I can see bath/beach towels not being supplied because of theft or towels being taken down to the beach area, however hand towels and wash vlothes would have been nice. In addition, while they did supply TP and PT, it would also have been nice for them to provide kleenex and garbage bags.

We stayed in one of the teepees over the long weekend, and it was and amazing experience! They were celebrating Halloween this weekend, so there were a lot of fun events. I will say the campsites aren't very private, but we will definitely be back for the teepee!
