Burbach Campground Introduce
Introduction / Overview: Burbach Campground—A North Nebraska Treasure
Nestled on the scenic shore of Lewis and Clark Lake, the Burbach Campground stands as one of the premier outdoor destinations in Northeast Nebraska. As a vital section of the vast Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area (SRA), Burbach offers a perfect blend of rustic natural beauty and modern camping amenities, making it a beloved spot for local families, fishing enthusiasts, and multi-generational travelers. This area, alongside the adjacent Weigand Campground, is the heart of the Nebraska side of the lake, managed diligently by the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission (NGPC).
Burbach is renowned for its welcoming atmosphere, providing multiple lodging options from traditional RV sites to comfortable, modern cabins. The recreation area draws its name from the historic Lewis and Clark Expedition, which traversed the nearby Missouri River, adding a rich layer of history to the spectacular natural setting. The lake itself—Nebraska's second-largest reservoir—is formed by the Gavins Point Dam and offers approximately 16 miles of water to explore. The campground is specifically noted for its ample shade, thanks to mature trees, and its direct access to the water, ensuring a cool and inviting environment even during the warmest Nebraska summer days. For those seeking an ideal blend of water activities, family-friendly fun, and comfortable overnight stays, the Burbach area at Lewis and Clark SRA is a must-visit destination.
The local community's appreciation for Burbach is evident in the many families who return year after year, often securing multiple cabins or sites to accommodate large gatherings. This dedication underscores the campground's reputation as a high-quality, reliable, and deeply enjoyable location for creating cherished family memories.
Location and Accessibility
Burbach Campground is situated approximately seven to nine miles north of the small, friendly community of Crofton, Nebraska, putting it squarely on the state's northeast border with South Dakota, along the banks of the Missouri River.
While the address is listed simply as Crofton, NE 68730, the physical location is within the Lewis and Clark State Recreation Area. Access is straightforward, typically requiring travel north on Nebraska Highway 121 from Crofton. The recreation area complex, including Burbach, is easily found with clear state signage. The general park headquarters and office are located near the adjacent Weigand area, which is highly visible upon arrival.
The campground is well-maintained, designed to accommodate a variety of camping units. Many of the sites feature asphalt or level, well-maintained gravel pads, suitable for RVs up to 50 feet in length. The roads within the park are generally paved, ensuring easy navigation and setup for campers. It is important to note that a Nebraska State Park Entry Permit (daily or annual) is required for all vehicles entering the SRA, which is separate from the nightly camping or cabin fees. Permits can be purchased online through the Nebraska Game and Parks Commission or upon arrival at the park office.

Features and Highlights
The Burbach Campground area is a major hub of activity within the Lewis and Clark SRA, boasting numerous recreational and natural features that enhance the camping experience.
- Lake Swimming Beach: A significant highlight is the big, designated swimming beach on Lewis and Clark Lake, which provides plenty of sandy room for families to relax, swim, and play games.
 - Modern Cabins: The on-site cabins are a major feature, described by users as "nicer than expected," complete with functional heaters and extra blankets, providing a comfortable, home-like experience for those who prefer not to tent or RV camp.
 - Water Access and Boating: Situated directly on Lewis and Clark Lake, the campground provides easy access to the water for boating, fishing, and other water sports. Boat ramps are available within the SRA complex.
 - Family-Friendly Amenities: The park includes playgrounds, picnic shelters, and plenty of open space for kids to "run around," making it an excellent location for annual family traditions and gatherings.
 - Shade and Atmosphere: The Burbach loop is known for offering better shade than some other areas of the SRA, thanks to well-established mature trees, which is a major benefit during Nebraska's summer months.

Customer Reviews
We stay here yearly with family. We take multiple cabins in a row. Other than being buggy most years everything is great. Plenty of room for the family to play games and run around and fish. Big enough beach for us to swim in. Camping spots for grandparents to bring their camper. Just a great time!
The cabins were nicer than expected. I will definitely be back and stay in the cabins. They also had plenty of extra blankets in case you got cold but the heater worked well in the cabins so we didn't need it.
We have stayed in the Burbach cabins multiple times now and they are always clean and maintained. They are right off the water and have great views. This is a great place to stay for a relaxing weekend.
Well maintained, heavily wooded RV campground. Sites are reasonably spaced, asphalt pads with 30/20 amp service, no water. There may be sites with 50a and water/sewer too, but majority do not. There are also some very nice spacious cabins on site that sit right along the shoreline looking right at the water. There are tent sites as well. Camper sites are back a bit further from the water in well shaded locations, an easy walk the waters edge. This campground is inside of a NE state park, so an entry fee is required. Day passes or an annual pass are your options. NE residents pay $6 for a day pass or $8 for non-residents. Annual pass for non-resident is $45. There is a marina and boat dock, ice, dump stations, etc. The roads getting here are bumpy as h**l so take them slow. There are several good restaurants nearby. I recommend CJ's at the Lake and Murdo's.
Great view of lake, very clean as well, beds were super comfy, great place for a bachelor party, will rent again if in area!
