Burr Oak Cove Campground Introduce

Burr Oak Cove Campground, located at Burr Oak Rd, Glouster, OH 45732, and reachable at (740) 753-0101 or +1 740-753-0101, provides a traditional federal campground experience for those seeking a rustic outdoor adventure. As a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it offers a unique setting for campers looking to explore the natural beauty of the area.

Camping Experience:

Burr Oak Cove Campground operates on a "first come, first served" basis and is a "dry camping" facility. This means there are no hookups for water, electricity, or sewage. Campers requiring power should bring generators, as solar panels may not be effective due to the dense, mature trees providing ample shade.

RV Considerations:

While the campground accommodates some RVs, it is not suitable for large 40' fifth wheels due to the terrain and site layouts. It is recommended to plan accordingly and consider the size of your RV before arriving.

Location and Accessibility:

The campground's location is ideal for exploring the surrounding area. It is a short drive from Glouster, the "Gateway to the Hocking Hills," and a bit further from Athens, home to Ohio University. The proximity to Burr Oak State Park lake provides excellent opportunities for kayaking and other water activities.

Site Features and Environment:

  • Spacious Sites: The campsites are spacious and include fire rings.
  • Walk-in Sites: Walk-in sites offer increased visual privacy and a more secluded feel.
  • Natural Setting: The campground is surrounded by mature trees, providing ample shade and a peaceful environment.
  • Noise Considerations: While relaxing, campers may experience noise from nearby roads, including sirens and train traffic, as well as occasional late-night vehicle activity.
  • Wildlife: The campground is known for its abundant birdlife, offering a pleasant natural soundtrack, especially in the early mornings.

Facilities:

The campground provides enclosed permanent porta-potties as bathroom facilities, which, while functional, may have the typical odor and fly presence associated with such facilities. Toilet paper is provided.

Additional Information:

Firewood is available for purchase at a private lot across the road from the campground entrance (turn left out of the driveway, and it’s on the right) for $10 a bundle.

Burr Oak Cove Campground offers a rustic and natural camping experience, ideal for those seeking a peaceful getaway with access to outdoor activities and local attractions.

Remember... This Is A FEDERAL Campsite, so plan accordingly. There are quite a few spots I would consider "RV Friendly" but don't bring your 40' Fifth Wheel 'cuz you won't make it. It's 100% "Dry Camping", as most Federal camps are, so have a generator if you need power. Solar panels won't work so well since every site is shaded with WONDERFUL mature trees. As usual, it's "First Come, First Served", but you camping veterans already know that. Location is absolutely ideal since it's a short drive to Glouster, the "Gateway to the Hocking Hills", and only a bit further to Athens, home of Ohio University and hippie supporters of every kind of deviance. I've camped here for weeks at a time with no safety concerns, but still choose your spot carefully. Nearest the Entrance are best, IMO.

The sites are spacious and include fire rings. The walk in sites offer a little bit more visual privacy and a feeling of being more secluded without having to walk very far. However, noise travels from other sites and while I was there, it was common to hear doors (at least that’s what it sounded like) slamming and vehicle lights shining as they drove past later in the evening, which made sleeping the first night a bit difficult. There is also road noise, including sirens, and train noise. Despite that noise, it still felt relaxing because of the sounds all the birds were making, especially early in the morning. The bathrooms were enclosed permanent porta potty’s (so the usual stink and flies) and included plenty of toilet paper. I also enjoyed being in close proximity to Burr Oak State Park lake, which was perfect for kayaking. Note: There was firewood for sale in a private lot across the road (turn left out of the driveway and it’s on the right) for $10 a bundle.

Nice, smaller campground, with some secluded sites and some closer sites, but plenty of space and options for tent camping. Each site had a parking pad, tent pad, picnic table and a decent fire ring. There were three restrooms which were essentially fixed location portajohn's. Stinky, but we'll maintained. There wasn't a lot of downed branches near the site, so it would be a good idea to bring some wood with you. About a 1 mile trail (30 minute hike) to the lake. Wish we had brought our fishing gear. Overall a nice, quick and easy getaway for the weekend.

Lots of roomy campsites. 19 of them. 2 Pit toilets were available. We found a site that accommodated our hammock camping (#15). There were also 5 or 6 walk in sites for backpackers. Just over a mile trail lead to Burr Oak Lake State Park trail not far from Tom Jenkins Dam. There was campfire wood available outside of this Wayne National forest campground. Just drive left out of the campgrounds down the hill and to the right you will see a storage facility. This is where the wood is located.

Great place to camp. Primitive camping with no electricity, but does have water fountains. Cost is $15 a night during summer and peak seasons. The cost is reduced once water is shut off for colder months.
